Default 2 stroke fuel for a 4 stroke???

this has probably been asked before and i'm sorry if it's a repeat but....whats the difference between 2 stroke fuel and 4 stroke fuel....and is there a way to add something to 2 stroke fuel to run safely in a 4 stroke?

You can run most "2-stroke" fuel in 4-stroke engines anyway. Most 4-stroke fuel will have a little more oil content in them, but other than that they are the same fuels. But as I said, you can use 2-stroke fuel with no problems. I run Cool Power 15% in all of my glow engines, 2 and 4 strokes alike. Never a lick of problems with it.

As RCKEN stated, the difference is in the oil. MOST 4 stroke fuels have 18% (or more ) oil. The other thing (and this will probably start a VERY heated discussion ) is whether or not to use any castor oil in a 4 stroke. Some say it will cause carboning on the valves. I add 3 oz of castor oil to a gallon of fuel. I have put almost 4 gallons through my Saito 72 with no problems. I prefer to have the safety margin of the castor oil in the event of a lean run.

Dave,
Please note that I said "Most 4-stroke fuel will have a little more oil content in them, but other than that they are the same fuels." Most does not mean all. There are different brands and different blends for each brand name you use. In fact, Cool Power (which I use) has the same amount of lubricant in their 4-stroke blend as in their 2-stroke blend. I was generalizing for the sake of the discussion as that is usually the only major difference between the 2 types of fuel. There is no way to sit here and list the differences between the two types for every brand out there on the market today.

I buy fuel that is labeled for 2 and 4 strokes. It 15% nitro and 18% synthetic oil. I use it in my 2 and 4 strokes and have not had any problems that I can identify as fuel related.

You can skip the castor if you want. Have been flying for over 13 years, 2 and 4-stroke both, never bought seperate fuels, still fly the first engine I ever bought. And it still has almost all the power it ever had. And no, this isn't the only engine I have. Probably have over 20, two and four stroke, and gasoline. I even run synth in the gassers. I've never had a problem yet, but I also don't lean my engines to get that last bit of screaming power from them. If you have a habit of running you engines laen though, use the castor as it will help.
