Default Alpha 60 question

OK, here's kind of an odd question. My father-in-law lives in Oklahoma. He just bought an Alpha 60 RTF. He doesn't want to open the box until he brings it up here next week to fly with me.

The problem is this: I'm trying to find out if it comes with a buddy cable. Some people have suggested that it does, but Horizon's website doesn't say anything about it. I bought him a spare transmitter to use for a buddy box, but held off on buying the buddy cable until I know for sure that we need it. Does anyone with an Alpha 60 RTF know for sure?

What TX are you going to use? If it's another JR then you'll need to get one. I had an Alpha 40 I rebuilt last spring and it had a chord in there for JR to Futaba (round plug, not the rectangular one). I've got a damaged Alpha 60 to rebuild coming this week, and from the pictures of the equipment, it appears to be the same JR to Futaba plug, not a JR to JR plug.

It can't hurt to get one from the LHS, and if it's not in there your set. If it is, then just return it next trip to the hobby shop.

Mine came with a Jr-Jr/futaba cord. So it should work for both.

Really? In that case, I can return the buddy box I bought, because I have Futaba TXs (both round and square). Shortymet, was yours round or square?

Also, what is the simulator that supposedly comes with it? Details seem to be sketchy on that as well.

Mine came with two cords. The buddy cord had the headphone Jack looking thing that goes into you JR radio, and on the other end it splits into the round Futaba plug and the same headphone looking thing for the JR.

The simulator cord has the headphone jack looking part for you JR radio, and the other is like a serial cable. (Im not exactly sure what its called, but most computer have it, but its NOT a USB port.) I would honestly not use the supplied software though. Honestly, I think its horrible. Both graphics and realness wise. But you can download the free simulator FMS, and use the supplied cord, and I think its much better. Just download a trainer plane.

Robbie-

Thanks for the offer. It sounds like I will be able to use one of my Futabas. If not, I'll keep the JR I bought for him.

I will get up to your field sometime soon, although I don't know that it will be when my father-in-law is in town. We will probably be flying after work next week and then our club's 50th anniversary celebration is on the 25th while he is here. You should come down if you've got nothing better to do.

Maybe you should get a La-Z-Boy recliner at the field to fly from. I wish I could come up this weekend, but I have to be boat driver for my daughter's youth group outing at the lake. Have fun and I'll look forward to a report. Hope you guys survived last night's storms.
