Default Duraplane Trainer 40

Well i got one of these from a friend with a .40 engine. It is in good shape but needs a radio. I was wondering if this is a good plane for someone who can fly a HZ SuperCub and a PZ Slo-V. I also have a .40 K&B and a .40 OS max engine i can use in it. Is it worth buying a radio to fly this think or should i just get a stryker/or that brushless cub that is soon to come out?

since you got ot for free maybebbut I remember when these came out there were comments about they did not fly well as they are heavy and you have to watch the airspeed so you do not slow too much and stall.

There are better trainers out there, but you already have this one. It's certainly worth the price of a radio to get her in the air. If you don't like the airframe, you can transfer your equipment to another trainer.

Ditto to what the others said.

But something nice about this plane is that it is almost indestructable.

It flies a bit fast for a trainer, but there is a way to fix this.

Get some Coroplast (Election sign material - it's available at Sign-making stores) Cut a long strip about 8" wide (With the ribs going in the 8" direction) and fold it around the wing to get the shape.

Cut it so it stops (Top and bottom) at the wing's trailing edge (Just forward of the aileron)

Now duct tape it to the wingtip so that 5" or so extends past the wing. This will extend the total wingspan by 10"

When you are good at flying it, just remove the coroplast and you have a more advanced plane.

Just leave it...install the Os max. you're going to have to learn how to land a brick eventaully.
I flew mind with a .46 mag, The .40 os max should have more power.
I actaully had more fun with it and progess faster. i wasn't afraid of destroying it.
I mean do you go inverted a couple of feet of the deck with your cub ?
Do stall truns or tail slide. you can practice doing flat spins on it.
You can fly it on windier days too. it'll actaully just hover in some good head wind.lol
