Default flaps?

Just bought a Mini pulse XT and was wondering if I could use the ailerons as flaps too. And if I can do this what my settings would be with my transmitter. It is a Futaba T7CAP. Thank you for any help at all.

You can, but I doubt you'd see any difference. The ailerons are too narrow compared to the thickness of the airfoil. Not to say nothing will happen, but it's not going to slow you down like you'd think. It will give a tad bit more lift for slower flying, but the more flap you have, the less aileron movement you're going to have.

Oh ... one aileron in channel 1, the other in channel 6. Enable flap trim and flapperon. From there you have to play with the ATv and % to get it trimmed out.

One thing to take into consideration is some planes can have tip stall issues with using ailerons as flaps. Don't know if affects the Pulse or not, just something to consider.

As mentioned, using the flaperon approach has it's drawbacks and are probably more of a pain than it is worth having. As you put in flaps, you lose aileron authority when you need it most, at landing. Just consider that putting in half flaps will reduce the amount of down aileron by that much. If you only have, lets say a half inch of travel, and you move the 'flaps' down by a quarter inch, then you only have another quarter of an inch of aileron travel. Not a good situation during any sort of tricky landings, such as in cross wind situations.

A few degrees isn't going to kill your plane. If you just drop them down, you may be in some trouble.

What CGRetired said..................

but keep in mind that glider guys have used a very slight flaperon deflection for years to fly their gliders a bit slower.

Using flaperons with what amounts to normal flap deflection can be a killer. Normal flaps for landing use a lot of deflection. That works because most flaps are less than full span. And actually give the wing some virtual washout. When you use the ailerons as flaps, you're not getting that washout, but the opposite.

(which is what CH said, only with the why in more words)

Thanks for the input guys. The plane flies great and from the sounds of it turning my ailerons into flaps isn't that great of an idea.
