This may sound stupid, but what does the term "soft mounting" mean?

Default Soft mounting an engine.

Isolating the engine from transmitting vibration to the airframe usually accomplished with rubber isolators. I have seen several brands out there.

Default Soft mounting an engine.

Mostly used on 4 strokes and big gassers. Dubro makes some soft engine mounts and the famous Hyde family has some available too.
