Where to get Blind nut
#2
The LHS often has them. At a hardware store or fastener store they're typically called t-nuts or tee nuts.
<edit> If you only need or want enough parts to complete one model, the LHS or hardware store is a great source.
If you want to stock up, McMaster Carr sells most sizes in boxes of 100.
Micro Fasteners sells packages of 50. Since the probably buy boxes of 100 and split them, the 'per part' price might be slightly higher.
Definitely check shipping/handling fees and prices to see where the best deal is. <end edit>

I usually press them through the wood with a c-clamp or a wood vise, if possible. There's less chance of anything slipping or breaking. And you can put it in precisely the spot/position you want. Just before it's all way in, I put some glue under the rim of the t-nut, then squeeze the t-nut the rest of the way down.

How do you install those things anyway? Just drill a hole and tighten down with a bolt?

2-56 and 4-40 size blind nuts might be hard to find at a hardware store. You might try Micro Fastners or RTL Fastners online. For small quantities, there's Tower.

Thanks for the answers vmsguy and Chuckw.
I was fitting the wings on my Kadet Sr. today and saw those things hold the wings on the fuse and wondered how they got there. I also wondered when they would be practical or best to use for me and how to use them.
Thanks!

Used a lot on back side of firewalls for holding engine mounts or on bottom of wood beams/plates for engine mounting if you don't use regular nuts.
Used for wing mounting bolts, hatch retaining screws and MANY other things where WOOD isnt good enough to do the job alone or may have been damaged.

Im in the process of TRYING to repair (fabricate a new) firewall for my first plane....a Hobbico Electristar RTF. I wanted to use new blind nuts. Plane is in MINT condition except for the repair needed to firewall. If anyone wants to buy it from me as-is and do the repair yourself(easy)....Ill take $200 for everything including 6 Nimh packs - 3000MAH> PM me if interested. Just be aware...if interested...I will set up a private for sale listing on RCU and you will have to place the offer. THis is so that both parties will be protected. For local pickup or meet. Pics provided upon request.
