I have been browsing on Tower's website for a tuned pipe/muffler, for my engines to try and squeeze out a little more performance. It's hard to tell which muffler's are going to give me better performance and which ones are designed just to re-route the exhaust to a more suitable position. I don't know if these add-ons do both or if they do one or the other. I don't want to buy a pipe that is not going to change my overall power.
I have an OS 40LA, OS 46FX, TT Pro-40, and an MDS 68. I see lots of pipes/mufflers for the OS and TT engines, but it doesn't say anything about increased performance. Does anyone know how to tell which ones will help me and which ones won't. Thanks in advance for the help.

most of the good pipes are adjustable. This way, you can change the point where the engine "Hits the pipe", or boosts power. This point is usually at full throttle.

This muffler is the one... RPM boosts of 800-1500 is not uncommon. These are clones of Perfomance Specialties famous 1/4 wave mufflers. TT and OS typically share the same exhaust pattern.

I bought a Macs tuned pipe for my OS 46 FX, and man what a difference. I went from about 12500-12800 on an APC 10x7 to almost 15000 RPMs. This engine screams now. this was th Macs pre-tuned pipe. I didn't fiddle with it, but I bet I could get even more performance if I messed with the header length and what not. But I am pretty satisfied with the power I am currently getting, so I probably won't mess with it.
This of cours is going to be a little more expensive thant the tower exhaust, but you can't beat the power.

I have both the Mac Tuned muffler and the Tower muffler on OS46 FX. Both are great additions at a reduced price. The difference between the two was not real significant but they are considerably better than the stock mufflers.
I had to do some machine work on the Tower muffler because it wasn't very robust. The threaded bolt supports in the muffler broke and I had to secure it another way.
I'm happy with both and would recommend both.
