hi guys!!i was out flying my nexstar the past few days and having problems with it.it has just been repaired after a minor crash which busted up the fusalage a little bit.the problem i am having is it doesnt fly level,it dives down even with it trimmed all the way back.the ballence is a tail heavy just to get it kinda flying level with it trimmed all the way(added 6 -1/4oz weights)i would think with it being tail heavy it wouldnt dive but it does.the elevator is centered fine.what should i be checking?i put the wing across a flat surface and the leading edge is up a tiny bit??please help anyway you can and if you need more info let me know..thanks guys..

Did your firewall take any damage? Your thrust angle could be off. Also take a look at your elevator just sitting on the ground and make sure it is just noticeably up with the stick and trim set to their neutral positions. Be very careful adjusting the C/G as it will very suddenly become uncontrolable as you go aft with it.

the firewall didnt take any damage.so with the trim centered and the stick in neutral the elevator should be up slightly?mine isnt, its straight.im still pretty new to this and dont really know much about the cg what do you mean when you say aft?

Your posts are kind of confusing. Did you even check the CG or do you know HOW to check it? DO you know where it is supposed to be? WHERE did you add all that weight? You didn't say. What kind of repairs did you make? Do you have all of the training "gimmicks" off of the plane? The AFS turned off?

i did check the cg according to the lines on the bottom of the wing, its tail heavy with the weights added to the rear of the fusalage.the repairs were done to the fusalage where the wing bolts to,it wasnt real bad but where the bolt goes through was busted right off.i didnt make the repairs,a friend of mine did and he says the repairs shouldnt have anything to do with the problem im having??i dont have any of the training gimmicks on,they have been off since day one including the afs.

Aft means, towards the tail. Does your wing set firmly down and square on the fusalage? If it is raised slightly at the trailing edge this might cause a diving tendency. How about some pictures of the repair work and a good side view shot of the plane with the wing installed?

First thing you need to do is get rid of the weights or at lest enough to get the plane to balance AT the CG. There is absolutely no need to go any further until then. With a tail heavy plane you are on a path toward destruction.

You carefully set your elevator to a neutral trim mechanically with the transmitter trim centered. THEN you have an experienced pilot (for safety sake) test fly the plane for you. Be sure to advise him of the possible pitch trim problems. Maiden flyers don't like too many surprises.
Go from there.

you say the plane dives down even with the trim all the way back...ok you got off the ground...so what are you doing when the plane dives down? wheres the throttle? do you have to have constant back pressure on the elevator stick to keep it level?
start simple disconnect the elevator pushrod...center the elevator trim on the transmitter...get a couple of scrap pieces of hard wood and sandwich the elevator between them at the tip of the elevator....now turn the clevis in or out to match the hole on the control horn...did you have to adjust the clevis?

well guys we can forget this topic[&o]..i went flying today and started to cure my problems untill all of a sudden i was shot out of the sky,im not sure if it was interferance or if it was electrical problems with the plane.i flew it 5 times and it was flying real good.the diving was almost eliminated.on the 6th flight i was in the air for a couple minutes and flying inverted at a good altitude and then the plane just came straight down at full speed with me not being able to do anything about it.the plane isnt repairable[&o]

6 flights? may not be interferance, your battery may have died. I have the nexstar and I fly atmost 3x.
If the engines alright and the radio is alright you can get the Nexstar ARF and just transfer them over.

nah the battery was fine,i had it on charge and checked it and it was up to 90% on the 5th flight.
the engine and radio gear look to be fine, the carb is full of dirt(need to clean it out).i was actually thinking maybe ill just use the motor for a sig 4* 40.

Sorry for the loss whatever the cause was. I think we have shown that having the correct CG is an important thing though. I am assuming that you took off the weights and rebalanced the plane??

Staying in the Futaba line http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXWX97&P=V would do the job nicely. Remember it will take a little longer to charge with the factory charger. Of course there are other brands of batteries available and other chargers too.

There's nothing wrong with a 600 mah pack; especially if you have a field charger.
Replacement 600 mah packs are $5 or $6 right now at Servo City
http://www.servocity.com/html/battery_blowout.html
If you want a little more, you can get a Futaba 1000 mah pack for about $15.

=========
If you crashed hard enough to damage your battery pack, you might seriously consider sending the receiver (with crystal) to Hobby Services to be checked for internal damage. Here's a link with info about sending things in.

well its winter time almost and getting a little windier so why not toss together a SPAD or whip out an ugly stick to keep you flying while you work on a nice winter project plan? if you ever flew an ugly stick you would love it and there can't be an easier build
