I just put together an Easysport 40 with an Evolution .455 engine. The engine originally came on my Alpha Trainer and has a Fly-Wheel on it; this added weight is supposed to make the engine run at a lower RPM. Why did I have to add 3 1/2 oz. of lead to the tail of the Easysport 40 to get the center of gravity correct? I changed the location of the battery to the rear compartment-seemed to help some. Is this too much weight?

That amount of weight really isn't too much to have to add to get the plane to balance. One thing you can do to help would be to remove the flywheel from the engine. It will run fine without it, and it will remove weight from the front of the plane. Taking weight from the front of the plane will result in less weight at the rear needed to balance.

Thanks. I am going to try removing the flywheel. I am pretty new at airplanes and appreciate the input, 3.5 oz. just seemed like a lot. I started out with helicopters but got frustrated with the difficulty and wasn't enjoying flying much. Having a great time with the planes.
