I'm finishing the last touches on a Great Planes Extra. One of my concerns is that I have a spare part which looks important but the instructions manage to cover the placement of this die cut piece in a totally ambiguous way. Anyone who has built this kit may be able to identify it. Its labeled as part #32 and it says its the hatch cover support although I have already installed the hatch cover with its supports and never had the need for this piece. Note: The piece is asymmetrical. Its wider on the left side and it shortens to the right. I say this because it may seem as a perspective issue with the angle of the photo.

I just read through the online manual and there was nothing about the hatch cover support, a.k.a part #32.
I'd just play "jigsaw puzzle" with it
Glue it in where it seems to fit the best[8D]

That is not a part. It is a piece of scrap.
Part #32, the hatch cover support is the rectangular piece that was removed from the center of that piece.
That piece was removed from a larger part to create a "lightening hole". This would normally just be scrap, but that piece of scrap was large enough to have another part punched into it, so in order to save wood, that's what they did.
The reason the "32" was stamped on it was to prevent stamping it into such a small piece.
Bottom line, you don't need it. Save it as scrap for another project.
