I am building my first plane. I have monokoted the fuselage and am wondering how to finish the edges like where the wing sits. Do I run some glue around the edge of the monokote inside the fuselage? Also the area where the engine sits. How do I make sure the stuff doesn't start to peel?
Thanks.
Derrick.

On my LT-40, I ultracoted the edge that the wings sit on. I have read of some people using sealing foam or something to keep out exhaust and fuel, but I did not do this fearing it would skew the way the plane sits on the fuse...
As far as the engine area, I covered it in thinned epoxy, then went over it with a gloss black fuel proof paint, looks real nice....I wouldn't put the monokote in there..

Many methods. Where the monocote edges meet the firewall, run a little thin CA along the edge. No peeling. You can also treat the area where the edge will sit (before covering) with Balsarite, that helps too. You can also "paint" the edge with clear paint or dope. This seals the edge preventing fuel from getting under it and peeling. I'm sure you will get other suggestions here as well. As suggested, I would not monocote over the firewall, just up to it. Some people may have a good way to keep monocote on the firewall, but other than glue under it I don't know. I usually just paint thinned epoxy or polyester resin over it to fuelproof it and run the monocote up to the edge of the firewall.

about the engine aera, usually, I overlap my monokote inside the engine bay, and only after that I fuelproof my engine bay with a mixture of acetone and epoxy. I put some of this mixture on the monokote edge, it will never peel in the engine nacelle when you proceed like that
I proceed the same way at the position of the wing sit

I put clear silicone on my wing saddles. It makes for a cushy fit and "seals" the cavity from fuel. Just wrap your wing with saran wrap and put it in the saddle with rubber bands. When it has cured, take the wing off and the saran wrap. wallah!!

This is what RCAeroguy is talking about. I don't use silicone any more, but it works.

Thanks all. Now I know what must be done. I will post a pic of the fuselage as soon as I can. I think it looks good. I'm hoping the wing looks as good.
