Default Refueling a Cowled engine

When refueling an engine that has a cowl around it and I can't get to the muffler exhaust pressure fuel line (overflow) to know when the tank is full how do I go about filling the tank without getting the muffler full of fuel?

diagram would be great.....

Is the muffler pointed down? if it it is you could just stop pumping when fuel starts to drip from there off the top of my head its simplest but i would have another idea if you want to get more complicated...

i leave enough extra fuel line to the pressure fitting so i can pull it out and have a piece of brass fuel tubing in the pressure fitting fuel line just seperate there.i also use an old fuel tank to catch any spilled fuel.

The 91 fx engine would be side mounted 90 degrees. Looks like the muffler still wouldn't be pointed down enough for fuel to drain out.

Both of your ideas are starting to make sense to me.

All other info is welcome.

If your going to mount it sideways, You'll be fine. You'll see a bit dripout thebottome when full. Also if you going with a basic plumbing design, you'll need to buy a pair of cheap hemostats. The average cowl has a vent on either side of the nose cone. You insert themin and pinch off the fuel line by the carb. if you don't pinch it off during fuel ling, the fuel will go to the tank and to the carb and out o the ground. Also the same trick when draining the tank.

You can tell the difference real easy if your using a handcrank. Without the hemostats, your turning and turning and turning and seems like not much is going through but when you pinch it off. you get a direct flow rate and can feel it in the crank
