a prime expample of why the statement "I've mastered my trainer" bugs the heck out of me...
I came out to the field one day and brought out my Trusty LT-40... pulled it up into a hover... then did a few rolling circles (not pretty, but they went!)
the old timers couldn't believe a trainer could do that!

In fact, doing advanced aerobatics on a trainer can actually improve your skills because it's the pilots fingers that are doing everything and not the plane making it easier. I firmly believe that everybody should keep their trainers and take them out occasionally for the fun of it. I still have mine and it goes out every month or so. It's an absolute blast to fly it!!!!

That's probably a bigger engine and lower pitched prop than the specs call for, but no surprises. That maneuver doesn't use the wing much so it doesn't matter if it's flat or semi-symmetrical.
My original club mentor (who just got inducted into the AMA Hall of Fame!) would take the controls of a student's trainer if he griped about a "trainer's performance" and would run it through an F3A pattern sequence. Some do better than others.
The Aerostar is a hybrid trainer and actually more what a lot of us saw as a second plane in years past. You never hear the words "aileron trainer" used anymore.
