It's more of a personal preference. Some like to have more tension because of the feel. Others like it more loose. The best I can say is to try each settings out and see which you prefer.

I had to put more tension on mine.
I thought having them 'loose' would be less tireing on the thumbs, but I was WAY wrong.
Almost crashed my Somethin Extra cause the 'feel' was non existant.

To try it out I advise tightening them, and testing 'in field' as doing it at the bench I as I found out doesn't give you the same 'sensation' as in the field.

May take a few tries, but it may save smashing your plane into the ground.

Some people have even gone to the extent of changing out the springs for a stiffer feel. It all comes down to a personal preference and trial and error.

I put a lot of tension on the Aile & rudder. Since I am a thumb and not a pinch flyer it is easier to hold a set amount of throw. For example when doing a fast rolling circle. I am working the elev up and down rather fast. It is easier to keep the roll rate constant if the aile has more tension. An example on the rudder would be Harriers or low hovering. i work the throttle in both of these cases. Having the extra tension on the rudder just gives me better control.

When I do a maneuver requiring elevator I have a tendancy to pull the stick into the corner and end up putting some unwanted roll into the maneuver. My aileron spring tension is maxed out and I've even gone to heavy duty springs.
