Hi all
OK, I have a budget of about $500AUS for a new plane. This is what I want to do with it.
Go fast
3D flying (hovering etc....)
aerobatics
and to be electric.
I have been flying for about 2 years, and fly a Trex 600 heli, combat wing and a few smaller heli's. I would love to get a plank to add to my collection.
I have the DX7 RX to go in it already.
Any suggestions would be a great help as there are a ton of planes out there.
Planes I have looked at so far are:
YAK54
Extra300
Edge......... just to name a few.
Cheers guys!

Take a look at http://www.airfoilz.com for a few options.
There are videos on the site.

Check out the e-flight range. They are pretty cheap and great performers. I have some of their profilers and they are awesome for 3d. If you want something faster check out someting like the brio10. these have had good review. either way check it out. www.modelflight.com.au

Not sure how someone would do if they've only flown Heli's going straight to a 3D Model the same as there's no way I could fly a Heli with a similar aerobatic capability as my planes straight off !!!
That said if you do feel confident or have someone to help you maybe the Extreme Flight Extra 45" or a tougher plane but flies extremely well and will do all 3D easily the Multiplex Acromaster or a Super Zoom which glues back together quite nicely

Ya' might consider the Typhoon. I have a buddy with one. WOW! It' won't do 100mph, but it's plenty fast. It'll do all the 3D stuff I know about.
With two extra batteries you MIGHT burn that $500.

I have been flying a Showtime 4D and love it. It can be tamed down and lands ver easily but is capable of anything a 3d pilot can throw at it.
Mine is a 90 size nitro but they do make a smaller electric version, I would imagine it would have similar characteristics.

Hovering and Go Fast can be mutually exclusive. A 3-D plane needs lots of engine and control surfaces. I have two that I suspect would tear their ailerons off if I were to open up the throttle in a dive. But that's gas/glow engines. ;-)

I have experience with planes, just not as much as heli's. I am a confident plank flyer, but only doing basic tricks. I want to set up a cheap plane that I can have alot of fun with. I just had the $500 sitting there, so I thought I'd get a new plane.
Here is what I am looking at.

You'll find that hovering an 3d stuff is a lot more fun than going fast in circles.
$500 will get ya a new OMP 540 V3 edge ARF and a os 55ax, a good rx an servos. This will keep ya busy all summer learning all the tricks of the profile trade........

! I would recomend the Typhoon, I don't own one but I know someone who loves theirs. The only problem is that if you get the RTF your servos will probably strip out. So your probably better off getting the arf or pnp version (I forget which one they offer)
Good luck!,

check out what these guys have to offer. I just ordered the Extra 300 today. I have seen in fly in person and was very impressed. There is a lot of info and a bunch of videos over at rcgroups on the extra 300 as well as a few of the others. These planes are worth checking out

i am learning 3d on this plane, and for the money it is the best plane i have ever purchased, i flew it all day today and plan to all day tomorrow i discharged a fully charged 2700mah rx battery and changed to another battery and kept flying.. wound up flying the second fully charged rx battery down to 5.0 volts so i did a serious amount of flying! i have definitely put this plane through its paces, it lands like a dream smooth as silk, in a dive it really is impressive, steep dives give speeds upwards of 100mph, so it is a fast plane, plus it is definitely 3d capable, and for cheap! you could get 2 of these shipped to you and still have some extra money burning a hole in your pocket!

Well the budget has just increased to $700. Sold some "unstarted" projects I am still loving the Katana MD. Read the specks and you will too!

Greetings whoever is there
I am a novice
and I mean just that
my total experience comes from buying a GP Super Stearman at the Hobby shop
I have not yet got an engine or servos (what are they?)
I originally restored life size vintage cars (1930's)
and like to have them as factory made.
I want my Stearman to be original replica.
should I have a rotary engine?
can I get Model onesand would they fit?
do they fly better ?
what type does anyone recommend?
Help!
also the manual says I can have 2 or 4 servos.
what is the difference?

Aussie Novice:
Put the Stearman away and check out RCKen's thread about starter planes.
The lifespan of your Stearman will be short if you attempt to start and build it right away.
There are things that you need to learn first before you tackle a plane such as that.

Ok, I decided on a plane that I am happy with.
Here is the plane and setup:
Extra 260 (Modelflight.com.au) $145
E-Flight 1020kv (Nitrodude.com.au) $70
HS 65s all round (HobbyLobby.com) $100
FP 1345 3s Lipo x 2(Helikraft.com) $100
Thunderbird 36 speedy $45
12 x 6 prop. $4
Total = $464
Under budget and a great little plane that will do everything I want. And looks good to boot.

Should be a great bird! Now I just have to wait for it to all come in.......... feels like chritmas again!
Thanks for all the advice.

That said, The Great Planes Super Stearman is no where near a beginner plane. I put a Zenoah G26 gas engine in mine. It is a coweled engine model and has a realistic looking dummy engine to hide your real one so it doesn't really matter what engine you use as long as it has enough power to fly the model.
Here is a link to a very long thread on that same model:
