I don't know if this is the best area to post this, but I will start here. I built a four star 60 and it has about 15 flights on it. Someone who is a lot better flyer than myself flew it today and stated that when he used the rudder, the plane dropped significantly. Since I don't use the rudder much yet, I hadn't noticed, but after he mentioned that, I tried myself and yep, it drops big time. All other control surfaces operated as expected.
Does anyone know what could be causing this? The plane has an OS 91 FS with a 14 x 6 prop.

My 4*40 also tends to drop if I use the rudder to turn the plane during level flight. But it seems to work fine when "hanging by the prop", etc. I always figured it had something to do with how I set the fin/ruder joint when I built the plane. If you are seeing the same thing then maybe it is a tendency of the design.
I saw a response by Bruce Tharpe (the original 4* designer) to a post over in the kit building section earlier tonight. I bet he knows the answer!

Hi All.
The down pitching you get with rudder seems to be a function otf the design of the plane. My 60 does it, as well as a 40 that I used to have. I saw a reference to that made by Bruce Tharpe, on a Q&A page about the differences between the 4* and the Venture 60.
My only suggestion is to go fly it and have fun!

I emailed Bruce and he confirmed that it is in the design. He suggested to drop the stabilizer about an inch and try it. Not real practicle for an already built plane. He said that the Venture 60 corrects this by that and by also sweeping the rudder hinge line back a tad to act like an elevator.
I agree Larry, I going to just fly it as is.
