Hi,

I just got a CMPro Cessna-50 ARF 46~50 Engine Powered Scale Aircraft for $135. It requires seven standard servos. Two ailerons, two flaps, elevator, rudder, and throttle. Since the whole plane was only $$135 (Looks great and seems solid for that price) I don't really want
to buy 7- $50 high end digital servos. $350 in servos seems a bit much for a $135 plane.
Any recommendations for good standard servos would be appreciated.

Just get something like the Futaba 3004 or Hitec 475 or something along those lines...they're less than 20 bucks ea. (the 3004 is less than 15. )

The above listed Futaba servos will do just fine. If you are on a budget you can pick up Airtronics 94102 servos from Tower for $9.99 each. I have been using Airtronics servos for going on 12 years now and in my opinion I think that these servos are the best kept secret in the RC radio world. I think that they are the best standard servos on the market. They are reliable and are a pretty tough little servo. I use these servos almost exclusively in all of my planes that don't require high-torque servos. These servos come with "Z" connectors so they will plug into any brand of receiver that you will be using. Give them a look, you won't be sorry.

Ken, according to Tower they put out 50oz of torque. Is that at 4.8v?

Those servos seem fine but it says they only include the servo and Z connection. The price is great but won't I have to also order the rubber grommets, brass eyelets, screws and horns?

Yes, that is at 4.8 volts. I have used these servos in large planes with no problems at all. They are really a great all around servo.

Even though it doesn't say it these servos come with all of that. Rubber grommets, brass eyelets, and a selection of control horns come with the servo. In fact, if you use Airtronics servos for any length of time you'll quickly build up a good selection of control horns because of what comes with each servo.

Another option might be the HiTec HS-322 with the karbonite gear that you can buy in lots of 10 for 8.70. I have used them in most of my planes and have been pleased. Just my 2c

They're metal geared servos for $7.98! They've got even cheaper standard servos if you only want nylon gears, but why have hamburger when you can have the filet at this price!

Good Servos, fully packaged with all normal hardware and Hitec (S) plug which will properly fit Rx's from all four of the majors current receivers (Airtronics Z, Futaba J, JR and Hitec.) without any modifacation.

He, he right direction - I,ve already had my fill of dealing with no name unknown servos from Hong Kong with no practical recourse iffin they don,t work. I'll glady pay a few pennies more for Hitec's (proven to me) best in the biz customer service and candy in the package from servo city every time

Yeah, your're right, John. I use Airtronics myself, and a few of the Spektrums (JR 821's) that came with the radio. All good servos. However, I have several of the small Hitec's for my E-planes, though, and they work fine.

FREE SHIPPING, TOO......These servos will stay tight and usuable for many, many flights. It's worth the extra expense to avoid having to buy twice. CHEAP servos get sloppy quickly. Also have to figure in the cost of a crash if a servo fails at the wrong time (the only right time is during pre-flight checks). Sloppy servos contribute to flutter, and saving $30-40 on servos up front may not be a good choice. Heck, I just threw 7 cheap standard servos away - THOSE were expensive! Seven of Hitecs cheapest (311s @ $8.99 + $5.95 shipping) would be $68.88 shipped. For $32.05 more you would get MUCH better servos.

watch ebay for small parts, I buy receivers and servos all the time and get good deals. I just bought five JR ds 821 high torqe high speed for $70 shipped. Everything has been brand new and perfect.

There are a number of sellers on E-Bay who buy complete radio systems and then part them out for fun and profit. You will often find digital sport servos available for far less than retail. I bought my Ace Staudacher S-300 ARF from a seller named mnhobbies who frequently sells JR, Futaba, and Hitec radio components. You can find his items currently for sale listed here:

I wouldn't be me without mentioning something from Ace Hobby/Thunder Tiger. Don't forget about the Ace 1903 standard servo, part number ACE8114, available for $11.37 each from www.infinitehobbies.com. With 41.7 oz-in at 4.8v with .19 speed to 60', the Ace Hobby 1903 standard servo is another good choice for a high quality standard servo. It comes with all of the usual mounting accessories and a variety of servo arms from which to select.

The metal gear version of the Ace 1903, part number ACE8121, will only set you back $12.91 from www.infinitehobbies.com and the performance ratings are the same as the standard version of the servo.

Ace Hobby and Thunder Tiger products aren't always the most common items at the hobby store or the flying field, but they're always well-made and they always offer a good value.
