Default Hobbico Superstar Select

hey guys. I recently picked up a superstar select (RTF) that had been stripped of its radio and engine. The question I have is where does the fuel tank correctly sit? There is a perfect moutning area in the nose (where it should be!) but there is nothing to stop the tank from sliding back and forth from the firewall to the servo tray. I would assume I don't want this thing sliding around in there. I just want to have it fixed in position before I take it to the club for my first flight!

I owned one of them and if Im remembering right the tank was round on thr top and bottom and flat on both sides. It fit in very tight. I didnt need anything behind it to keep it from sliding back. In fact I had to remove it a couple of times and it was hard to get out.

you are remembering correctly, it is round on top and bottom! My big problem is that it slides freely back and forth. I assume that there is a brace missing somewhere, and I am not sure what position the tank should be in.

Wrap it with foam until you get a snug fit then slide it in. You should wrap it in foam anyway. The foam will help keep the tank isolated from vibration. Excess vibration could cause fuel foaming - not a good thing. Good luck!

I CA'd a thin piece of plywood behind the tank, just in case. If I had to do it over, I would use the foam as suggested above.

I learned on this plane. If I remember correctly, there was a piece of ply that you slid the tank across as you pushed it into the nose of the plane. Once it got far enough, the tank cleared the ply and it "sprung" up and blocked the tank in. Yours is probably missing this piece. Your best bet would be to use the foam, as mentioned above, to pad the tank and create a tight fit. This is better, actually, than the stock method, as it reduces the chance of vibration causing fuel foaming. The previous owner probably did this, and this is why the piece is missing, and the fit is loose.

Default superstar fuel tank

Here's a pic of of the inside of my Superstar. Just like airwethead said, there is a ply piece that goes up against the rear of the fuel tank and goes all the way back to the servo tray. I glued this piece in place and it also doubles to hold the receiver and battery for my airplane. Hope this clarifies some...
