I have just put together a new plane and am currently fitting the cowl. The problem is the standard exhaust pipe/silencer isn't long enough to poke out of the side of the cowl so my question is this....
Can I fit a hose to the end of the silencer to take it outside the cowl or do I need to buy a new exhaust pipe?
If I can fit a hose to the end of the silencer, what material is it?
Thanks in advance.

Hmm...not sure what plane / engine you're dealing with but maybe something like this would help:

I know you're in the UK but maybe Dubro products or something similar are available there? I believe this is just basically silicone rubber - I'm sure someone will set me straight if not...

[link=http://www.aerotrend.com/shop_cat.php?cat=6]Here[/link] is some tubing that I have used before. I always try to get 1 size larger than the actual size I need so performance isn't effected too much.

this is what I did for my Hangar-9 P-40 to route the exhaust out the rear of the cowl, even after using a 90o bend pipe, and the stock header, it didn't make it out the back but cleared with the exhaust deflector,it also aims the smoke and oil away from the plane as well.
