My grandson purchased a HiTec Electron Rx at a swap meet. He was told that if was for futaba. How do I know if it is high or low band.

It doesn't matter.
Hitec does not tune their receiver to a band like Futaba use to.
It will work fine on any channel.

Hey, something nice about that little Rx..... it'll for with Futaba, JR, Airtronics and Hitec transmitters.... It's auto shift.

Just try to make a habit out of turning the Tx on first

The Hitec Electron-6 is NOT auto-shift. They make a negative and positive shift version of it. The new Mini 6S and Neutron 6S are autoshift.

Make sure you get the Hitec dual-conversion crystal for it.

It says on the RX for HiTec and Futaba. Can I then get any channel crystal for it. I probably need to get a HiTec Crystal.

That's the negative shift version (HiTec and Futaba). Get the dual conversion Hitec crystal for whatever channel you need:
