On a 4 stroke the rule of thumb is 1oz per minute per cubic inch at WOT. I dont know about a 2C.

Well that works out to needing at LEAST a 36oz tank to attempt to get 10 minutes of flight out of a BGX.

Or roughly 3.2 flights out of a gallon of fuel.

Yup it's NOT cheap and it will guzzle fuel, but it is not quite as bad as I thought given how the BGX is made out to be in terms of fuel consumption....

Opjose,
I burn 16 OZ in a ten minute flight with the 1.60 Flying pattern manuevers (alot of vertical)
the BGX is 9 more CC's so I would think 20-22oz for a similar flight. (Not all WOT)
and it costs $250 less than a top of the line 50cc. Maybe not the best for 3D but most likely
a good candidate for IMAC style flying if you don't mind the fuel cost. I think OS should send some
our way for some good field testing.

Thanks.

I have a BGX-1 and I've been wondering about trying to install it in a 1.40 Fiberglass Yak 54.

The weight of the engine is right for this plane, though I'm a bit concerned about overdoing it in the power area... and hearing here about it's fuel consumption made me wonder if I should forgo it altogether.

it sounds like it wouldn't be all that bad.

I was thinking about going with the new Great Planes Extra 330S and the BGX looks like a perfect fit.
I have heard that the big scale GP stuff comes out a bit heavy so a 47OZ motor might be on target.

For those who haven't seen a BGX-1

Sorry for hijacking Goirish, I'll stop now.

It looks like the two will be perfect fits for each other.

Add a Pitts smoke muffler and you'll be putting on a show!

If I am going to put another tank in it, it will be a reserve

Mostly want to buy this setup for precision aerobatics, I like 3D but I get my 3D fix with my foamys
and other electrics. I am going to wait until August or September then I will order the plane and engine.
If I can keep it under 13 pound and that motor can swing a 20x8-10, it should have ballistic vertical.
