Actually, I personally taught about 2 dozen green newbies to fly there. They learned the technique just fine. Its just learning to control your plane. I will admit, we probably did spend more time instructing on the landing technique than is typical at traditional fields. And its true, when guys from tradional fields came to visit, they weren't versed in flying the pattern in slow flight in and around obstacles. They were used to zooming around, chopping the power and gliding in. They had never been taught the proper landing technique. Its much more common than you might think. But it hardly means that learning the proper technique is an invitation to disaster. Quite the opposite is true, especially when it counts.

PS. Keep in mind, we were flying trainers, Stiks, Sportsters, that kind of stuff, nothing snappy.
