Default cycling nicd batteries

hi,
wondering if anyone here discharges their receiver batteries. Do you just charge and recharge?
iv'e heard it's beneficial to store them at .1 volts or something and then charge them up the night before.
If so what do you use for a discharge rate and what do you take it down to?
thanks.

I discharge receiver batteries once or twice per season depending on use (once at the beginning of the season, once in the middle). Other than that I just recharge them from the last state I flew them in. Any more cycling than that and you're wasting precious cycles. When discharging, bring down the voltage to no less than 1.1 volts per cell (4.4 volts for a 4.8v pack) then slow charge them with the supplied wall charger, unless you have a battery conditioner (then use that). For long term storage I discharge to 1.1 volts per cell and put them in the refrigerator.

I actually just finished cycling my batteries to make sure they were at least 80% rated capacity and ready to go for the season.

I also cycle mine. I can say that cycling has saved me at least 5 airplanes by finding bad battery packs. It is good preventive maintance. Good Luck, Dave

The charge rate depends on the size of the pack. How many Mah is the pack rated for??

It should be charged at a C/10 rating, which for your pack should be 60 Ma.

<<Edited to correct typo in charge rate>>

Umm... please correct me if I am wrong, but isn't C10 = 6 amps? Wouldn't 60 ma be C.1? 60 ma is 1/10 of the 600 mah capacity. C1 would be 600 ma.. so 60 ma would be C.1

I'm not trying to be a wise guy here, just perhaps my understanding of C or Capacity is wrong??

I'm sure RCKen meant C/10.
It's no wonder that C10 got the thing hot. That's WAY too fast!

Yes, I meant C/10. Trying to do too many things at once and missed that. Guess that's my mistake for this month!!!
