Default First KIT

Can someone suggest a first kit to build? I have a trainer ARF but I also want to buy a kit to build in my free time as my very first one.

Keep in mind this is my first attempt at any kind of kit building. I have never tried to put monokote on or anything (other than simple patches).

Im thinking about the Sig 4 stars. They are sports planes but they look like they are pretty straight forward and do not have a lot of complex angles. What do you think?

I've put together a list of planes that make good trainers and second planes. All of them on the list are proven planes that are well suited for successfully letting students learn to fly, or advance to a second plane. Check out the list here

This list does include kits as well

Hope this helps

SIG Kits are great. The 4*'s are highly re3commended. The Something Extra is also a really good kit and may actually be a tad easier to build as the wing construction is simpler and does not need to be joined. There are a ton of build threads on the SSE as well as the 4*. The Goldberg Tiger 2/60 are also in the same class as the 4* in terms of build and quality. All are great flyers and you wouldn't be disappointed with any of them.

Go with your first instinct and build a 4 Star, great second plane, great detailed instructions and a relatively easy build.

I would recommend the 4-star over the Something Extra. While the Something Extra is a great building kit, it's not really the best 2nd plane. Now if you're not stuck on Sig products I might recommend the Goldberg Tiger 2, which I personally think is a bit better flying than the 4-star. Now don't get me wrong, they are both great 2nd planes. But I just like the Tiger 2 a bit better.

I suggest the Great Planes Rapture for a first kit build. Low cost and ease of build.

I personally like the SE better than the 4*...don't get wrong I have plenty of 4* of different sizes.

The SE saves me the bashing that I would do to a 4*.

It'll land like a kitten, becuase the airfoil is simular to the Centender and people like the Contender too and build that
as a second model. The contender was my second model and i flew it to pieces.

On an SE i can roll to the next county tho.
I just have to remember to flick to low rates to make her gental as a butterfly.lol

I would have to say a Tiger 2. Flys better and looks better than the 4* and not so common. All kidding aside, You would do well with either one.
