'cause I Solo-ed yesterday!
Talk about a knee-knocker! I went to the field after work yesterday with 6 buddy-box flights under my belt. My instructor was there and after I got everything checked out, came over to help but without the buddy box. He checked trims and did a run-up to full throttle, took off and asked me if I was ready. I managed to squeak out a "Yep", so he handed me the Tx.
He asked what I wanted to do and I told him I'd like to practice approaches. He talked me through a line-up on final, cued me when to cut power and she floated to the ground like a feather.
The next take-off was mine! On the second landing, I ran out of field, came in too hot and did an on-the-ground-outside-half-loop in the tall grass at the end of the strip, but with no damage.
As Grampa would have said... "Ain't this a hoot!"

Default Cool

Not to rain on your parade, because I remember how cool my first takeoff and landing was (about a year ago).

But,

Soon, you'll try the same stuff with the instructor sitting under the shed and you out their by you lonesome.

Its just as nerve-wracking to be standing out there the first time on your own. Then you'll have to tell yourself when to turn and when to cut power.

I was fortunate that on my first solo solo I had the field to myself. I shot 9 minutes of approaches, each of which wasn't quite "right", before I finally landed.

So, congrats and get ready for that next step.

Way to go, man! Soloing may be knee-knocking, but just wait till you are learning to hover and t-roll close to the ground. Good job and happy flying!

Thanks, CC.

Ghostbear... Yep. The second flight was with the instructor back under the shelter with the "critique committee". Just as scary as the first one.
