Yes...from the back, and it is the same as full scale aviation...all left-right orientation is as it would be to the pilot sitting in the pilot's seat.

Yes, full scale orientation is the same, until it comes time to describe to someone with you where to look for something.. then it becomes clock positions and hi/low.
Taking Fire! 10 Oclock low!

Do like the boaters (and Navy fliers?) and use port and starboard designations. Red light on the left/port (pilot's orientation), green light on the right/starboard. The navigation lights on aircraft are taken from the shipping standards.
I use the same colors to mark my aileron servo connectors. Haven't reversed them yet . . . .

I've seen a few planes with the wing tips done in red and green covering.
I used to forget which color was left and right. The way I remember is by thinking of the left wing: red = communist = "left winger".

PORT (4 LETTERS EACH) LEFT : Port a RED wine
STARBOARD (MORE THAN 4 LETTERS EACH) RIGHT : (the other left!!)
RED RIGHT RETURNING (from waterway nav buoys) is also what you see with plane nav lights COMING DIRECTLY AT YOU!
