Default fuel proofing flightline box/tote

im in the process of building a very Simple(kiss) tote that i can carry with me to the starting stand, it will accomodate 2- 12 volt hobby batteries, my starter, glow ignitor, fuel, pump etc... its made out of scrap wood, pine and 1/4 " ply wood ... id like to brush or spray something ovr it to fuel proof it,,,

got any ideas of something that'll work, and not make a mess if glow fuel gets on it?.... i know krylon is out of the question i found out the hard way

Thinned or "heated" epoxy... the same way you would fuel proof the engine area forward of the firewall and tank area behind. You can brush on thinned expoxy or also heat it with a covering gun and it flows real nice.. It will setup faster via the heat method though so move quickly

I hear that polyurethane is fuel proof. I really like the wipe-on polys but Minwax makes some pretty good stuff in spray cans too.

I put together a Sig field box a few years ago.. Sprayed it with the minwax polyurethane (sp?).. So far it still looks brand new. I keep a few folded up paper towels under where my fuel jug goes. I think I used 2 cans just to make sure it was covered really well..

I gave mine a good thick coat of Tremclad Paint. It may be Rust Paint. But it sticks great to wood, and Fuel will not hurt it. I have spilt fuel on mine and it hasn't hurt the paint at all. It didn't even fad or streak the paint.

You can find it at wal-mart, etc, etc, etc.

Yep. Poly finishes are good.

If you have a Tractor Supply Store nearby you can get rattle spray cans of Ford Red, Farmall Orange, John Deere Green & the like in fuelproof enamel paints.

i took my brothers advice and used some old K&B epoxy paint, the kind that has part a and b. i have it 2 nice thick brushed coats.... he said a clear coat or furniture finish wouldn't look good, and i agreed, so im happy with the blue finish it has

again thankyou for the suggestions
