Default Avistar 3D flyer?

Anyone see this Avistar on Youtube, hovering and torque rolls. There is another one of a young guy walking up to it as it hovers and spins. Pretty wild, must have a real beast of an engine on them.

That's not the plane, that's the guy flying the plane.

Yup, he's a good pilot. Trainers are stable and have light wing loading, which makes them more capable of 3D stunts than sport planes that are not designed for that purpose. The only areas that I can think of as challenging for a trainer are inverted flight, outside loops, axial rolls, and snap rolls.

I would imagine that he isn't using an OS LA engine either.

no disrespect to the pilot, but wouldn't that be kind of easy to do with the right gyros helping out?

I use to have an Avistar a long ago and I remember that it was so fun to fly and way better than any other trainer at our field. Of course I did not perform any 3D maneuver but it was fun anyway. I personally do not think that the pilot in this Video is using any gyro and regarding the gyro use on our models I do not think that they could be of great help. I have the G4 RealFlight Sim and it has the GP Yak with gyro and it is very easy to hover (Even for me) but in real life things are like different.

that Yak in G4 is exactly what I had in mind. with the gyros on high... well anybody could hover it.

I would be interested in knowing what mods he has done to it. In the video I didn't see any rubber bands holding the wings on and the dihedral looks removed from the wings, or maybe reduced drastically.

Avistar comes already with a minimal dihedral from factory, that is why many people uses this one as a second trainer (very capable to perform certain aerobatic routines). Still is interesting to know if there are some mods besides a powerful engine.

Yeah, but take all the dihedral out and it gets *really* nimble...
