Hey folks. I am an experienced R/C pilot (flying for 35 years +), but am about to get my 8 year old son into R/C. I was wondering if anyone knows of a decent electric trainer that is available on 2.4 GHz that is RTF or ARF with a minimum of three channels (ail or rud, throttle, elevator). I really like the Horizon Firebird type, but they do not appear to be available in a 2.4 flavor. I was hoping to spend around $250.
Anyone know of something that fits the bill?
Thanks.

WOW Chuck, that was fast!!!
I spotted that one and is a possibility, but it is not in yet and they say "early September". That probably means late September and his birthday is in the first couple of days in Sept.
Anything else anyone is aware of? Thanks guys.

woke,
heres one for you to check out = http://www.americanpioneerhobbies.co..._electric.html you could use a tower rimfire motor and silver series ESC and a low end 2.4 ghz radio with this one and be around your price.
and another = http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/123506.asp
and heres 1 i know he would like allthough it would need calm flying conditions. = http://ecsvr.com/abm/shopexd.asp?id=2494 if i can remember any others i will post them also.

Bassman, I think I am going to get him that Hobby People Fledgling II. That appears to be the closest match to what I had envisioned. It comes with a cheasy brushless motor and ESC (I called, its no name, non-programmable, but all it has to do is work for his first). I'll plop in my own servos and RX. Anyone have direct experience with this thing? I am assuming it is a decent airframe. Guess I'll find out!!
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.

Take a look here. Most are not 2.4 GHz but are quality RTF's. I had a Hobbico NexSTAR Select and loved it (it was glow and 72 MHz) as was another trainer I had for a while, used it as a club trainer.. Hobbico Super Star RTF, also 72 MHz.

Have not really made up my mind until the charge card goes HOT!!! That will not happen until after I get home from work. That E-flite plane is very attractive, but that is the one that Horizon said will not be available until too late. But perhaps these guys have it. I need to call.
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.

CG,
i have one of those superstar's and woudlnt suggest it it flys good but is under powered with the brushed motor it comes with, i ended up putting in a rimfire motor and silver series esc and now it has plenty of power on an 11.1 volt li-po and 9X6 prop.
also it doesnt come with a tail wheel so you either have to install one (which i did) or fight to steer it on take off. like i said it flies well now with the brushless set-up i put in it and can fly for about12 to 15 minutes now.
its not to bad in the wind but a little on the lite side at a little over 3 lbs RTF so it does get a little bouncy.

you could always give him a picture of it and tell him "my gift to you right now is patience, and in a month or so, my 2nd gift will be that plane"
haha
sick humor, but funny (to me at least)
