Default Seb Art Trainer

I was looking at Pattern ships the other night and came across this traner.
http://www.fedonaircraft.net/album1_044.htm
I am going to purchase one when they are no longer a pre order status.
Check out the video on the bottom of the page.

That is an offbeat looking trainer. Really cool. From the pictures I can notice a weird LE on the wings and no dihedral. I'm curious as to how this model handles.

My favorite part was "......it does very easy reverse flight"

I just wanted to point this plane out, because I have seen some new pilots asking about electric trainers. Given the size of the power system
the batteries can be had from $30-$80 per pack (depending if you have to have brand name or not). you could set this entire palne up with
a TX and 3 batteries for around $450-500 dollars. If the plane flies as well as it looks in the video this plane could not only be a trainer,
but a "second plane" also.

I currently have the Seb Art Sukhoi 30 size sitting in a box in my basement. I haven't had the time to start assembly but the plane is very
good looking and built very well.

That is the DARNEST "trainer" I've ever seen! a trainer doing hovers and knife edge passses? That is TRULY a remarkable aircraft. I'd like to know what the "total cost" of the whole kit (engine/battery/Tx/ESC, servos) is.

I can guarantee that you'll be THE ONLY one at the airfield flying this bird! It's DEFINITELY unique, not only in it's overall design, but in it's looks and abilities! I'd LOVE to learn more about this thing, but the website isn't really much help on the "complete package" cost....

If that thing can REALLY fly like a "trainer" and STILL pull all those acrobatics, it's a one-of-a-kind that's definitely worth the money!!!! I like it ! You can fly it slow and lazy or get silly and "jiggle stick" it to make it fly like a Twist! That certainly puts it in a league of it's own! I'd really like to see one of those up close and personal just to get a better "feel" for it.

I'm still baffled that it's considered a "trainer" [X(] I sure as heck can't do that with any of the 3 trainers I have!!!!

No crazier than an F-22 as a trainer. Probably better.

I just scanned the manual for this thing.... one particular line caught my eye:

"→ Do NOT fly your airplane at high speed, because this may cause structural failures."

I know that this is possible with ALL planes (or MOST planes....) but they put this in 24 point RED type! for some reason I don't find that reassuring.

I did however email them for a catalog I want to know what the $59.99 price is and what the $219.99 price is on this. Is one for the straight "naked" ARF and one for the ARF + engine/ESC/servos/transmitter?

$59.00 is a down payment for pre-order, $169 will be due at time of shipping. I don't think this will sell out fast so I am waiting until it
is in stock. Maybe price will come down.

The plane is a bit pricey at $219 ARF, but if you consider that going from training to intermediate aerobatics would be 2-3 planes using
the "conventional" method this plane may be a good deal. Or it may be junk that just looks different. only time will tell

I just got a response from the email on the site for the SharkS:

"For the 50 dollars is for the pre order ; the price list is 219.99 dollars only the ARF no servos motors ecc.
Please contact me for all the question's
Regards
Luigi"

Guess that answers the question..... That's AWEFULLY steep for a basically "unknown" plane with no real-world field testing or ideas on the quality of it's build.... For all I know, the tail could snap off after a "less than perfect" landing! I can live with that out of a $70-$120 ARF, it's just a fact of life that cheaper usually means "less sturdy". But $220? I'd be REALLY cranked off if this happened. And btw, I added up the "recommended" accessories to get it flying and you can pretty much add an EXTRA $150+ for the motor, prop, servos, LiPo, and ESC that pushes this little bird to $370+ and that ain't chicken scratch! (again, ESPECIALLY for an "unknown" plane of unknown quality of build.... this thing could be put together by Chinese slave labor for all I know! and for $370 I WANT TOP SHELF STUFF without a SINGLE seam or "loose fitting" part!)

I hope I could read a real owner review of this plane, it looks real good and I bet that it could be a great performer.

Spacemonkey, my LHS sells Sebart's stuff, and ive seen the Shark S. Its a great looking peice of kit. I hope to move onto it in the future ( Still on my Trainer ). When I inquired about it as a trainer, the guys at my LHS didnt exactly recommend it. Its more of a second plane I guess.

Ive seen it fly, and it looks great ( Cant comment much because im still new to planes ), but saying that, any plane will look great in the hands of a good pilot.

I just ordered a Hacker ESC and Outrunner for my Sebart Sukhoi (same Power Package as the Shark) I will start the assembly sometime next week.
then I will have more of an insight into this manufacturer and the product, Before buying the Shark.

I'm glad to hear it's a quality build! I'd just never heard of the brand before and you NEVER know who's REALLY putting these things together..... (did you know that the "auto-walk" transmissions on lawnmowers are all made in Mexico and that MOST of the servos that control the directional louvers in your car's airconditioning system are made in Chihuahua, Mexico?)

It's interesting to see it advertised as a "trainer to grow with" when it's REALLY not a "trainer" in the traditional sense of the word (high wing, fairly slow speeds, self correcting dihedral, easy handling, etc...). I guess that's why they pay marketing people.....

overboard, I have a quick question (this probably should be in the "electric" section" but it's just a quick 'curiosity' question). Nitro planes use a transmitter in your hand and a receiver in the plane (matched channels). Here's the question: Do electrics use "receivers" in the same way? or are the servos "digital" and set to specific channels to match the Transmitter?

I've got a great old Transmitter for my Nitro planes, i'm wondering if it would work with electric planes and HOW I would have to MAKE it work?

Spacemonkey,
Electric works the exact same way as nitro or gas, Just substitute the combustion engine for a
electronic speed controller and an electric motor. the motor plugs into the ESC and the ESC is connected
to the throttle channel of your RX. so you would need a transmitter, reciever, and crystals.

Difference. while larger electric planes use a seperate reciever pack for the servos, smaller electrics use the
motor battery for servo power, this is called BEC (battery elimination circuitry) this is possible by regulating
esc output to the RX at 6 volts.

Wow, Chris.. a pretty steep price. Not that it really matters, but it's sort of un-tried, if you know what I mean.

Let me see that thing when you get it. Sounds pretty neat to me and I am not offering any criticism.. cuz, as you know, I've done some things too!!!

I may or may not be out tomorrow (Labor Day). Depends on what I have to do around here. I'm headed to Massachusetts on Thursday, then England on the 10th, then Salzburg, Austria on Oct 1, THEN.. jeech.. this goes on and on.. to Florida on the Oct 23rd. That may do it for this year, but I seriously doubt it. So, I have a lot to do before I leave. Hopefully, I can fit in a few orbits with the Skylark 70!!! [sm=49_49.gif]

Dick,
Hope to see you tomorrow. I was in the yard for 2 hours tonight wasting electrons
with the foamies and my 4 year old nephews (foamies are a great babysitters)

I am hoping to order this plane and a power set after the holidays. I am planning on
putting together a new 2 meter pattern plane with brand new electronics and powerplant
before buying any new toys.

What's the new 2 meter ship?

I may or may not be out today. I'm leaving on Thursday, may be out of town for the next two days (depending on what happened at the big meeting on Friday) then come home, re-pack, then head north for a few days, then come back.. repack yet again to go to England. Gonna be a real busy couple of weeks.

If I can go today, I will.

Dick.
