Congrats Joe! Your not so much a beginner anymore!

Yup he won Sportsman alright. Nobody even came close to beating him after 3 rounds. You might even say it was a one man contest! LOL

Seriously, he flew really well. After some more time with the Venus, I think he'll have a shot at the district championship next year. Look out D1 Sportsman pilots!

That's Great. Keep up the good work!

I took 1st place at the Nationals last year out of 300 other flyers. My trophy was 3 feet high and took two guys to carry.

Bad part is, the inscription on the front of the trophy read......Most Crashes In One Day! []

He is pretty new too isn't he?

Not to say anything bad about the venus, I have flown one and it was a blast, but its not a true pattern plane is it? That was my understanding that it was sort of in between pattern and aerobat. If he gets him a true pattern, lookout!

Yes,

Joe has been flying just about 4-5 months but seems to have real natural abilities and is willing to push ahead to expand his flying skills. Quite an accomplishment IMO for such a short time.

As far as the Venus II ................. To the blue bloods the Venus II may not be a true pattern ship, but its plenty of airplane. Capable of flying well up into the advanced classes of pattern with good thumbs on the box. I was at a pattern meet in Apopka, FL this last spring where a pilot took first in advanced class with an electric powered Venus II. So if you consider what you get for less than $300.00 its a great flying airplane to hone your pattern skills on before spending big bucks on a two meter airplane.

Jester,

In all due respect, if you too do anything of merit flying wise I'll be glad to HONK your horn as well!

I think as our members move through their progression from the beginner stages its good for them to be recognized!

There have been a lot of NAY SAYERS here banging on Joe for his failures. IMO he has been forth coming about his successes and failures in a very truthful manner, ie. giving us the good bad and ugly.

He has now stepped forward stepping up to flying pattern R/C honing his skill. How many of you can say that they are ready or willing to do so?

So tell me why can't you give him credit?

Jester: I have been as critical as others have been. And I recognized his exuberance for going forward as a novice in both RC and Pattern.

GaRCfield is flying in the Sportsman category. This can be flown with just about any aircraft, but the Venus II is probably the most able aircraft for the entry level Pattern flying. GaRCfield did good. He chose the Venus II to do this with. He is learning to set it up, and set it up right. He is also learning to fly really well with this plane. Good for him. Good for the sport. Good for Pattern. Enough said.

I'm with you!!! Actually, it is more drama than I can stomach.[:'(]

There are many, many relatively new pilots out there who have accomplished goals they have set for themselves without blowing there own horns about it or someone blowing it for them.

Everyone have a nice day,

I didnt see GaRCfield "blowing his horn" As you put it. I saw another flyer, who likely was one ofthe many nay sayers here for Joe, congratulating him for beating the odds and actually being as good as he said he was.

I have long been against the harsh words given most new flyers because they can be discouraging, and I am extremely proud of the fact that the guys on this forum can step up and say he did great and beat the odds when he did. Especially after the harsh warnings, and dire predictions given before.

Im all for giving credit where its due. Remembering all the naysaying going on when he first came to this forum, I do believe credit is due in SPADES here!

GREAT JOB Joe!!! I only wish I had half your apparent natural ability. Im still in the advanced trainer stages learning. (And STILL having issues timing my Cuban 8's right, But thats a subject for another thread)

I agree great job Joe! You might of crashed a couple models learning but at least you wern't afraid to keep pushing yourself and im sure that helped you progress as quickly as you did. I like flying my beater planes more then what ever one i consider my nicest one because I dont care about them as much and im not afraid to fly the sh$t outa them. Its import to keep things in perspective and its hard to do that with as expensive as these models can get but at the end of the day they are just toys
