Model Aircraft Aerodynamics by Martin Simons. There really is no bible for aircraft design, but this is a start. I have a library of engineering texts at my disposal on my bookshelves, but this is probably the best for everyday people who aren't engineers.
But if you can understand equations, Introduction to Flight by Anderson is a good one; straightforward basic aerodynamics and aero-performance.
My personal bible is Analysis of Flight Vehicle Structures by Bruhn.

Well, there actually is a more than excellent book for design.
"BASICS OF R/C MODEL AIRCRAFT DESIGN" by Andy Lennon. It is extremely good and suits the audience perfectly.
It's sold in a lot of local hobby shops and is published by Model Airplane News. Last time I noticed, it was like $16.00 and was stocked by both the hobby shops around here.

I have A lot of RC books but several years ago one friend went to the trouble of going onto ebay and found me Gordon Whiteheads Scale Aircraft, models for everyday flying. This book was published in 1980 and it's my go to book when I have A brain twister for design or how to do it. It's worth the search. Scratch building from Gordons plans is also A treat.

Well, we specifically left Combat out because we didn't want to advocate smashing your planes.
