Is it possible or has it been done?, I really would love to have one of my 100s as a gasser, electronic ignition and all. I figure, re tap head for spark plug, drill for hall sensor, add gasket or shim to block to lower comp a little, add 2nd vent to adapt small carb for gasoline OR add 2nd vent for perry gas pump to go to the orig carb that has all gaskets and seals gas safed. run like10% oil and rich, or what ever. i like my gas plane i just got so much I want to make em gas or sell em for gas. NO TO GLOW!!! (my new chant)

I belive that CH Ignitions make a conversion for the Saito's to spark ign.

They also sell micro sparkplugs that fit standard 1/4X32 glow plug threads. Sparkplugs this size actually pre-date glow plugs. Before Ray Arden invented the glow plug, all model airplane engines were spark ignition and that was the thread size of the miniature spark plugs that model engines used. Glow plugs just copied the spark plug thread size.

well then in theory a ei and mount a hall sensor(not hard) and then the carb would be mounted and then a pulse tap to the carbs pulse hole and figure what kind of oil in the fuel? how much?

The other problem is the oil ratio, how do you put enough oil in the gas to lube the bottom end but not foul the small plug? do you pre lube the bottom end, run klotz racing mix at a 25:1 ratio or find a way to add oil injection to the lower end? for the carb pump issue, use the crankcase tap for pulsing the diaphram on the carb.

My two stroke motorcycle riding experience has shown me that a rich fuel to air ratio will foul plugs a lot faster than a lot of oil in the fuel. In the olden days before glow plugs were invented, a standard fuel for small model engines was one part 70 weight oil to two parts white gasoline. If your air fuel mixture is right, I think you will be able to run 10% oil without problems and your Saito should be happy.
You might also consider using E-85 and Klotz instead of gasoline.

Hi AMD, there is a thread here on RCU concerning converting small 4-strokes, I've just converted a Saito FA270T, but haven't started it yet - time & weather. Some are just using the stock carb & speak of it being very sensitive to adjustment. That is what I'm hoping to use, altho do have a Walbro carb at ready. Not being a machinist, took the "easiest way" - bought ignition & plugs from Agape, 3/16 dia magnets from Radio Shack, JB'd some blind nuts on case to mt the sensor & magnets to prop hub. Going to run on glow first as carb is already adjusted & check installation, then work with carb to run gas @ 20:1 ratio.
