Found a great place to fly...

I have not flown my Nexstar in months. I used to fly in a large cow pasture by the house but I can't anymore. I can't keep a strip mowed down and I'm tired of moving cow patties so I can have a place to land.
I was out riding my scoot today when I noticed a couple of RC planes flying around an old airport. I stopped to watch and they waved me over. I stayed around an hour or so watching them fly and meeting the guys flying. They said they fly there every weekend. It's a perfect place to fly...nice runway and all. They said not many planes come in there anymore. Mostly just crop dusters during certain months of the year. They told me to come out and fly anytime. One guy said that if they were not there, he lives beside the airport so just stop by and he would give me a key so I could go in and fly. What a find! It's about 15-20 miles from my house and I never knew about it. I'm ready to get back to flying!

Sweet........just always keep those real planes in mind no matter what, even if they hardly ever come in. I recently heard a bad story about a flying field at an airport by my house where there was almost an accident with an r/c plane and a helicopter that came out of nowhere. Its good practice to always have someone else there to keep a visual for real aircraft at all times, becuase strangly guys say they never hear them.

That is a sweet find. One of our local clubs has been on the search for a flying field for a few years now. They were flying off a farm lane for a while. Then they hooked up with a Elks club or one of those type clubs that has a few hundred acres and a Rodeo grounds. They were flying off one of the parking lots. They had been on a month to month agrement so they did'nt want to do any improvements on the field. They got their wish for a long term lease, well sorta. It is going to cost them 2K a month after a year or two. Way out of line for a 30 maan club.. Enjoy your new find while you can.
Or club field is right next to a National Guard base and at times, they fly a lot of helicopters off the base. Every now and then we get one coming over low and fast. We use the old boating rule, the biggest boat has the right of way. We hit the deck when they come over.
