I think so
There's a Hangar 9 plane: This plane looks and flies great. *Note: fuse is plastic, not wood. Difficult to repair.

And this one which I think looks totally awesome: Great instruction manual, landing gear options and floats available:

These are just two that I know of, there may be more.

wow! A lot more options than I thought. I thought that there would just be weird looking trainer like things.

But yes, they are pretty sweet looking!

My second plane was an Extra 300S, but I was way ahead of the normal learning curve and it was only a .40 size Phoenix models version. Lands easy too! I wouldn't get a big scale like that for a second, but I wouldn't be opposed to anyone trying a smaller one like I did if they can fly their trainer like it was a part of them.[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

A Stick makes for a good second plan. Flies almost like a trainer and you can do a lot more with it. Put the biggest engine in you can.

You sound like the type of person that would like a profile
. They are extremly durable as well and do ANY aerobatic in the book...

Andrew, have you given a thought to the Four-Star .40? It was my second plane, and I can't
recommend it enough. It's available in kit and arf form, and the radio and engine that's in
your Nexstar would work perfectly. Bigstick, Dolphin, Knockabout are all great choices also.[sm=shades_smile.gif]

Well if this is an all-out second plane suggestion thread, I will go with the Dolphin. $99, easy to assemble, flies very, very well with a .46 engine. It was my second plane and I'd do it again. As with all planes, it looks much better in person than on Tower's site.

Go and google what the PTS in the mustang PTS stands for rather than asking everyone else.......
Andrew, I dont want to rain on your parade.. but I'd get realistic about your second plane.
Chances are your going to crash it.
I'd say more likely than your trainer.
The trainer is used to learn the very basics, and so doesnt really get exposed to too much "dangerous flying" but as you get your second plane, you'll start to try and see what IT and You can do...
Ie.. some days it goes wrong.
Dont go for expensive or pretty...
Go for "temporary and functional" get a Phoenix Dolphin, 4*, Kyosho calmato sports etc and abuse the hell out of it.... finnish with it THEN take the radio gear out and put it into something pretty.....
I got the dolphin as a 2nd plane and its always in the car when i go to fly, because its "disposable" I take it out to practice nasty manouvers or generally go lower and faster than i would with a better plane.. it was €120 I can buy 3 replacements a month if i wish.... so who cares.

Here's another possibility:

Of course, you can spend time building it while continuing to learn on what you have now. It's not as forgiving as a Hangar-9 Ultra Stick, Sig Four-Star, or Tiger 2, but may be a little more docile than the stripped Mustang PTS. I let a friend fly mine, and he was able to hover it as well as do a few snap rolls. And believe me, it WILL snap with the best of 'em, so you'll want to reduce elevator throws a little at first and gradually move up.
So, why would I stick my neck out for a kit? Well, because after building it you'll know how to fix it should you cartwheel on landing, for example. But once you learn some respect for this little beast, you will have learned some better flying habits. And believe me, that's knowledge that you would need to apply while flying that huge Extra you've had your eyes on.

I can't recommend highly enough you don't do what you're considering. Unless you're prepared to eat the entire cost of the plane, you're not ready to try that plane as a second plane.
Not only are you most likely going to eat the cost of an airframe in the first 5 flights, you run a good chance of stripping servos, bending a prop shaft, and destroying electronics equipment.
If you want a "big 'un", try the 4* 120. It's a huge aircraft(IMAA legal), and if you enjoy building the kit is the epitome of builder friendly. Beef the firewall up and put a larger engine on it(a 35cc or even 45cc gasser is probably possible with sufficient reinforcement) that you can use in a later acrobat project, and invest in good quality high torque servos that will work in your next plane. It's also a popular airframe and the arf should, in theory, be re-sellable when you're done with it.
I also encourage you to consider the safety of the people your with. I would clear not only the flight line, but leave the field for my own safety before you flew it as your second aircraft. The prop on that sucker at half throttle is lethal, and a plane that big moving quick can get away from you in a heart beat. No sense i putting yourself and everyone else in danger to destroy something...

I know,I decided to not go with the Extra yet because I understand now that it may not be the best choice for a second plane. But I interested in getting into aerobatics and Scale planes!

At our club field we have a sign you can open. Once open, no one can go out and those that are flying when finished come in. The one who opened the sign can fly by him/her self. New plans, crash rebuilds or new pilots.

Andrew...you say you're bored with your trainer, but you never answered my question.....can you fly the pattern inverted? Do you grease in your landings 90 percent of the time? Can you do three rolls without losing altitude?...If you can, then get a second airplane...if you can't....you can still learn from your trainer...you can always get the second airplane...I'm just sayin you might not have learned all there is yet...
