Powering a tiger 60?
I just orders the Tiger 60 kit.
What would be a good choice for an engine?
Cost is a factor so I guess it will have to be a 2 stroke.
I have a TTPro .36 on my skyRaider trainer and was considering a TTPro .61 for about $129 Would that be enough engine?
I could go a little higher $$$ for an OS or something else if they have a better option?
Also, I would be interested in mounting the engine sideways with the muffler below the plane to create a more streamline cowling and to keep the fuel off the plane???
Is this doable?
I'll start checking some of the tiger build threads.....
Hopefully ready for Jan 1st funfly...H'mmm, mayby if it was an ARF! :-(
thanks
Steve

RE: Powering a tiger 60?
The kit builds very quickly, much like the Sig Kits do. A .61 will fly it OK but I would probably go with a .75/.76. I am running a Tower Hobbies .75 in mine now after initially breaking in a GMS .76 in it. I use this airframe as my .61-.91 2 stroker break in plane. Both these engines are reasonably priced and mine both run awesome. It is a fantastic flying/landing plane. I built mine as a taildragger and love it. Whatever motor brand you choose will be fine, but just consider the .75/.76 size for this airframe....you won't be disappointed.

I have a ST. 75 in mine and it does great. I would go with a 75 if you can find one in your price range. I got my ST here on RCU. You can get good deals if you look a little. You wont need the digital servos for this plane the standard servos are fine.

RE: Powering a tiger 60?
I'm running one of the new OS .75AX engines in mine. My last one that I put in nose first and hard was running a Tower .75. It ran great. I'd recommend either of these, although I'd probably lean toward the Tower just for the price. Only reason I went to the OS was because I hosed up the carb on the Tower while cleaning the mud out and couldn't get a replacement due to the Chinese having shut down the manufacturing plants at the beginning of the year. Now that the Olympics are over, that shouldn't be such an issue.
I highly recommend reading this build thread: [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4997091/tm.htm]Tiger 60 Build Thread[/link]

Well, maybe not. Just checked Tower's site and the carb for their .75 says it won't be in until late Dec. Seems to me that's what it said the first time I ordered the replacement carb. Finally cancelled that order and found me another brand that fits, although I had to grind a touch off of its length. So, until they get the engine parts issues worked out, I don't know that I'd recommend the TH .75.

The parts problem should free up fairly soon.
They are obviously not making it for the Xmas rush, but they'll be beating the door down to try to make it for the next flying season.

Go take A peek at the SK .90 sold through Kangke/ Super Kraft. After I tried my first one I have been sold on them, outstanding engines and 100 bucks all day long. Well, maybe they have gone up sense I last looked. They made A bit of A mistake in there book, it breaks in with A 15X6 prop, anything smaller and they tgend to run lean. www.kangkeusa.com I use these engines now in anything from 60 to 90 size planes.

RE: Powering a tiger 60?
I fly mine with a TT 91 FS on it, there are 3 others at my club, one flies with a Saito 91 FS another with an OS 61 two stroke and another with an OS 75 AX on it. They all fly well but for my money the four strokes just purr along and it all seems so effortless.
Just a great choice of aircraft

I have had a TTPro .61, an OS AX 75 and an OS FX .91 on mine. While the .91 was a whole lot of fun I think the AX 75 suits this plane best. I would go with the best 75 size engine my wallet would stand. Also standard servos have worked very well for me.

RE: Powering a tiger 60?
My son has a Saito 82 on his. He is getting a little bit board (not a lot though) with the lack of power. But I think the plane flies pretty good. It's not REAL fast, and it won't hover (he want's it to hover), but it flies just fine. When I fly it, I cut back on the throttle for awhile, and it just flys and flys and flys. It's a great plane, and everybody at the club likes the color.
And yes, we "borrowed" the green color from Sourkraut.

The plane flies just fine with a GOOD .61 on it. I have a Chinese version ST .61 on mine and it's a blast. This plane was designed around a 60 size engine. The other nice option is a .91 4 stroke. If you build the plane heavy a 75 or 90 is better, but built light a 61 does just fine. Yes I had a ST .90 on my Tiger but took it off. If you go with a 90 size engine use a 14X6 APC or other quality prop. It gives excellent vertical and still allows it to slow for landing. My other Tiger will have an Enya 90 4 stroke on it.
