Default Painting my Cub

I have a 1/4 scale clipped wing Cub that I want to make it look like Hazel Sig's Cub. Blue and White. I plan on covering with coverite fabric. Will use white as the base covering. I have a couple of questions regarding painting over coverite. 1) what kind of tape do I use to make the design. 2) do I need to seal the tape in some manner, 3) what happens when the cover gets some wrinkles in it and 4) what would be the best paint to use. I am a fairly good at covering and I can paint OK I do alot of wood working and have small spray guns. OR, should I just use a different color fabric for the design? Thanks [8D][8D]

Use 3M blue painting tape (Available at Auto Parts Stores)

My favorite paint is no longer available, so I won't comment on what type to get, but as for technique, paint the areas white first, let dry, then paint them blue.

That way, if any paint bleeds under the tape, it will be white-on-white and you won't see it.

I think I get what you are saying. Let's say that I cover in White coverite. Tape off a tri-angle that I want to end up blue, but paint it white first, let dry then paint the blue. If the cover starts to wrinkle over time, can I use the heat gun like I normally would? Thanks MinnFlyer.

Hey Mike,

I'm going to be using 21 century fabric like irsh is.

Can you put a blue fabric over the white fabric ?

Irish, great questions and good timing too, I ordered
my fabric yesterday for my Astro Hog.

Klass Kote www.klasskote.com is a very good epoxy paint, very similar if not identical to Hobby Poxy (no longer available).

Yes, you can put the blue over the white, but you would be better off removing the covering underneath first. Just leave about a 1/2" overlap

If I am going to use a gas engine would I be able to use a good quality automotive paint? Easier to get than the glass kote. I guess the only other question is: can I use the heat gun if the covering starts to wrinkle?

Since glass kote is made her in Minneapolis, stop by, pick up your paint then, have breakfast with me and my family, then maybe if you sweettalk Mike, you can have luch with him, then head back

Why not ,

Heck, anyone that wants to come is more then invited, I just charge a small fee, something small like a new airplane, a good working engine, radio stuff, just about anything

Gee all I would have to bring would be a 27% 330 edge and you probably wouldn't want that.

I'll just pick it up when I come for breakfast. Minnflyer can recover it. You can fly it and I can rebuild it.
