Watt Meter?
Hi all,
I`m sure this has been asked before but could someone please explain about watt meters.
What are they, do you need one, how to use one etc.
Thanks,
ants.

RE: Watt Meter?
Without a meter to read what your e-power system in a model is doing you are operating in the dark. A meter will tell you current (amps) and power input to the motor (watts). This lets you check if you are working within safe current limits for your motor, esc and pack. It lets you calculate watts/pound to judge performance and allows you to estimate the run time available from a given pack.

RE: Watt Meter?
They are very simple and if you want to play EP you really need one! Its to ensure that you know how many amps your system is pulling so you do not burn or damage any thing within the system. It allows you to decide what a certain motor and battery set up will do and what prop is best to use with it.
It works by being plugged between the battery and the ESC. What it will usually show you are the basic 4 items:
1. voltage
2. amps
3. watts (volts x amps)
4. amps used
Some like the Hyperion one can tell you much more like RPM etc. I heard rumours it can make a latte or expresso too.

Here is the one I use for my smaller setups, measures Volts(Top left) , amps (Top Right), mAH used(bottom Right photo 2), Watts(bottom Right photo 3, it also has a driver to dreve the speed controler and has the output in MS(bottom left)

RE: Watt Meter?
Hey thanks all,
I`m putting one on my list!
From the pictures above I assume you hold the motor in your hand and spin it up and give it full throttle?
Thanks,
ants.

RE: Watt Meter?
Thanks again folks,
I`m beginning to see the light!
One more question (newbie remember ),
I now understand how to use one, but how exactly does a watt meter help with chooseing your prop/motor/esc and battery?
Thanks,
ants.
