Default Not a good day at the field this morning

Temp about 17* zero wind. Got my Tiger 60 with skis and said here we go. Drove to the field, mounted the wing, did my range check, fill it with fuel. Waited for a few minutes in the truck to warm up my hands. Turned the TX on then the plane. Put 2 squirts of lighter fluid in and connected the glow driver. Used the electric starter and after a few seconds the motor started. I left the glow driver on for about 1 minute. While the engine was running I did another range check. Rx battery at 6.68tx at 10.9. Everything ready to go. Throttle up and down to check the transitiongood. Here we go. Set the plane on the ground and started to taxi out. So far so good. Got it headed down the runway and started opening the throttle. And, that is all we did was taxithe snow was too deep and powdery. Made several attemps but all resulted in the same ending. The prop kicking up the snow and was never able to lift off. It is powered by a ASP-75 2s so it has plenty of power. I packed it up and drove back home. Got my SeaDancer out with a Mag. 91 4s and will take that out to the field this afternoon. It likes the powder. So my Tiger lived to fly another day.

My experience from when I lived in Michigan.....

skiis only work well on hard pack snow...for powder snow floats work much better!

Cheers

Not that I wish death and destruction on anyone, but that was a pretty anticlimactic story.

Put the plane down and slowly back away.

Now make some hot chocolate and sit by the fireplace and watch TV

Welcome to winter!

MinnFlyer is almost right. After the hot chocolate and the fireplace, get a kit out and start building. This is not winter, this is the building season. At least in the Midwest.

Hey jship
I like that. Now it don't seem so cold out now that it is not winter. Call my wife and tell her I need a couple of kits. She doesn't listen to me.

Cut about 2" off the back of the ski, curve up the front as much as you can and try again.

Are you talking about the front ski or all of them. I will post some pictures of the wing and the skis.

Oh, sorry I assumed a taildragger. Most/all commercial skis put the gear mount in the middle of the ski, this is incorrect and it should be about 2/3 of the way back. (the ski behind the mount is shorter than in front of the mount). If you think about it, the weight of the airplane will then tend to keep the front of the ski up and it will not dig into the snow near as easily.
However with a trike setup it will be difficult to get it to work well in powder snow.

it didn't work at all. I had flown it the othre day when there was only 1" of snow at it was great. About 3-4" today. I have the SeaDancer all charged up and ready to go. I flew it last year in lots of snow and it worked great. Also putting floats on my Ultr Stick so I will be able to fly that as well

You got it back in one piece, how bad of a day could it be?

I had the same problem last Thursday out on the lake, just a little crust on top and powder under and the plane kept breaking through. I will try the Sealane next time if we have enough snow. I am looking forward to trying that off of the lake.
Have fun and post again about the SeaDancer.

Irish! Jeez.. brrrrrr. Hot chocolate sounds like just the ticket this morning. Perhaps some Belgan Waffles, pure Maple Syrup, and a few strips of bacon. Yum!!

Get that Float SeaDancer started and going!! Brrrrrr
