Anyone use a TX mitt?
My daughter bought me a Mongo Mitt for my poor little hands when I am flying in this weather. Has anyone used a mitt and if so, how do you like it. I don't do well with gloves on, can't feel the sticks. Tried cutting the fingers off the gloves and all I got was cold fingers. Can't try it until after Christmas. Let me know what you think about them.

Mongo mitt does what is advertised - keeps the hands warm. On really cold days, my hands sweat and condensation forms on the clear window, obscuring the view. That is my ONLY complaint.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. I like to fly in the winter, but geeze, seems as I get older I don't tolerate the cold as well. I have a 60 acre run-way in the winter and I don't have too many problems finding the runway.

Irish, I hear you. As I get older, it gets colder. The mitt looks like it would work great. It can get pretty cold around here, but nothing like where you're from. Not much humidity here. As far as gloves go, I like these http://www.seattlemarine.net/product...idproduct=1759. They're fairly warm and you still have enough dexterity to adjust the high end needle, feel the sticks and trims, etc. I can usually find them at the local ACE hardware for about $7. Happy flying!

I still have snow and ice on the ground but it's 37 degrees here both yesterday and today, the lake bed is too wet to drive on right now and it's 10 degrees colder down in that valley but one of the local fields will be opened and ready to fly on maybe tomorrow. I can fly with light gloves on when I have to but what do you guys do for your watering eyes when the breeze picks up?? I have tried using some old blinders from my shooting days but they don't help a lot. After 5 minutes it looks like someone just ran over my favorite dog with all the tears flowing!!

Makes me sad to read these posts from you guys up north. I know what it's like I came from there but been here in sunny Fl. for 15 years now. If you all will pay the postage I'll send some sunshine up to you. Used to warm motors and hands from cars exhaust. Maybe that's whats wrong with me inhaled to much exhaust.

When using a muff, we just sorta con someone else into starting the engine, then they get back into the car to keep warm, and watch/critique...

RE: Anyone use a TX mitt?
Hey Gene,
I am hoping that my wife has a mitt under the tree for me. I have flown twice this winter (my first year flying) and both days were around 15 degrees. I used a pair of choppers to warm the hands, then I have a pair of mechanix gloves (actually MotoX racing gloves) that are tight leather and good for dexterity to use for flying. I can only fly about 8 minutes before having to land and warm up again. I also have the problem with tearing up, but next time I go, I will bring my safety glasses that are Poly carbonate and tightly hug my head. I have used them for riding my M-cycle short distances and have never had problems with tearing up.
It was downright balmy this morning when I left the house, it was 15F, which was about 15 degrees warmer than the previous 5 mornings when I have left the house. I think I am now acclimated to the weather now, time for some ice fishing.

Here's another link, GoIrish. http://www.atlasgloveconsumerproduct...almdipped.html Hopefully this one will work. For Winter, I like the therma-fit 300i. All the hardware stores around here carry them. Pretty cheap too.
