micro servo
Hello guys,
I want to install a Futaba S3114 micro servo that has 20.8 oz of torque as a throttle servo for an OS 55. Will this work all right?
Thanks

RE: micro servo
No it won't. While the torque may be OK if the carb moves smoothly the nylon gears in the servo will not hold up and will strip due to just the motors vibration. Even the servo arm on the little micro won't hold up. A mini like a HS 81 should be the minimum used.

I agree with Evan.
It may not happen on your first flight or three, but a micro servo will strip because of the shock force vibration from the engine.
Better safe than sorry.

RE: micro servo
Thanks guys for the info. Guess I'll just use a standard servo. Don't want my son to say "hey Dad, the dumb plane won't slow down!"
Maybe in a few years I'll use that micro servo for a ball turret.
Might check out that HS-81 though.
Thanks again.

RE: micro servo
I use the 3114 on a few very light weight foamies (5 oz or less) for the aileron (Fancy Foam Vantage... et al)
great little servo, but I wouldn't use it on a glow plane....

RE: micro servo
I've used the Futaba 3101 and the Hitec HS85 both with nylon gears and with complete success. But i would'nt use the Futaba 3114 The gear train is just to fragile for me. As far as the HS81 i did use it once the pot wore out to quick for me. The HS85 has better electronics inside along with a better gearset than the HS81 just to explain the cost difference.
You will not need a metal geared servo for your throttle not on your application.

RE: micro servo
This is what i use for throttle of my glow planes 225mg http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXN667&P=7 . and this is what i use for throttle of my gassers 5245 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXCRT0&P=7
only had one fail on me, the 225mg, i used it as a choke servo, now i just use manual chokes now, less BS
