Training nite tonite. I only got in one flight. After a steady downpour Tue and Wed the field was wet and the maintenance crew did not have a chance to mow it. Takeoffs were LONG with alot of rudder play!! Landings were quite nice as the long grass slowed you down if you came in alittle HOT!
Beautiful night for flying. Not a speck of wind at any altitude. We had about 10 trainers in the pits. Very busy night for the instructors! I flew once only because I wanted to know what it felt like flying without wind.
After that flight, I packed it in!

Another training night and another 2 flights. Flights 63 and 64! Both flights went without a hitch! Takeoff, fly around, a few Touch-and-Go's. For my two landings I forced a dead engine to practice deadsticks. They both went off pretty good! I packed it in early due to I wanted to help my wife pack for our camping trip.
Lots of trainees there tonite! Training night is going strong. Had about 5 instructors there providing coverage. When Im not flying, I help others get their plane ready. It tends to calm them down abit if they talk to someone.
Overall another great training night!!

Well went to training tonite. It was raining but the area to the west looked clear so I decided to go to the field. I always have fun there weather I fly or not.
We sat around shooting the bull and talking about the upcoming airshow at our field when I got my plane all ready with a fuel up and radio check. Some of the instructors took some planes up when the light rain dropped to a slight drizzle.
Pete Siefret, took me up for the first flight of the day and I jsut had a fun fly. Did some loops and barrel rolls and low high-speed passes. Ended the flight with a forced deadstick. I ran onto the field and retrived my plane. When I got back to the pits the lead instructor, Bob Rowe, said, "Fuel it up, you're doing your solo flight."
"Huh?" Oh boy, wasn't expecting this. "Well, OK"
Did the taxi and takeoff and did a figure 8 pattern, oval pattern, center up the runway different altitudes, loop, power-on stall and the deadstick. I should of turned left to make my approach against the wind, but my thumbs screwed me and I made a right turn. Now I would be landing a deadstick with the wind. The wind was very light and not a big factor, but I did come in hot. It was an OK landing but on the slight bounce the front wheel came off!!! Thanks Goodness I was going so slow for the nose dug alittle into the soft earth and did not even flip. I ran out to get the plane and no damage.
Bob says, "Fill her up, we'll try that one again." I got a new wheel collar and tightened it hard. I fueled up and got to altitude when Bob reached over and deadsticked it again. This time no problem turn left and lined up in the landing pattern against the wind this time and came in for a slight bounce smooth landing. I ran out to get the plane and knew the flying part of the solo test was done. I knew I wasn't done yet. The ole oral test was next. One of the instructors asks you a bunch of question on safety and club rules. Questions on proper procedure and ettiqute. I passed that and my solo was complete.
I soloed on my 66th flight on my Superstar. That poor plane took my abuse for over a year and she never let me down. She is one hellva trooper and always kept me out of trouble. So, with my solo comes and end to this thread. I seems like I was writing it for my own piece of mind but that is good enough for me. Thanks to all who have read these posting and gave me encouragment along the way. I hoped you enjoyed reading the thoughts of "Another Newbie".

Well, yesterday I put on flights 80 through 84 on the ole Superstar. The field was empty, just me. Alittle windy but the flying was great. I was away for 3 weeks so it was nice to get some "stick" time in. Maybe I'll try to get in some flights tonite. Time in running out fast here in Upstate NY.

Well I went to the field from 3:30 until 5:30 and got in 5 more flights. Flights 85 to 89! Maybe I can reach 100 by the end of the year! The ole SS ran and flew like a champ! A fellow club member showed up with his H9 Funtana S90 and flew a couple before I left. What a incredible aircraft! He had a Saito 120 FS in it!
Im getting more comfortable doing loops, rolls, Split-Ss, and others maneuvers without thinking about it. Before I had to think everything over before I did it.
It is such a joy to go to the field, set-up and fly! I always enjoy when other people are there, but flying by yourself with noone around is soooo different. If I had my pick I would like to have other people around. Just watching others fly and shooting the breeze makes this hobby so attractive.
I bought a SIG Somethin Extra ARF from a guy on Ebay. He was changing to electrics due to his RC club was shutdown because of complaints from a new developed housing area. They had the club 13 years! Now it is gone due to noise complaints from residents of a new development! Just doesn't seem fair! Is this happening often?

Hey Swager, Glad to hear you are enjoying your flying. I soloed about a month ago and am having a blast with it. It seems so strange to remember back when I started and was soooo spaztic at it. Wow! There is a house somewhat close to our flying area and the man that lived there (he died) used to confiscate the planes that ended up over in his yard. Also he complained about the noise but I doubt it was very loud from that far away. Funny thing is there are full size airplanes that fly over and he at least once came down to tell to keep the noise down. He said he just heard one really loud, flying over head. Turned out it was a real aircraft. Some people just love to complain............ [

It's the same thing as real airports deal with. The airport is there many years, lets build a housing developement next to it and then complain to everyone of the noise, etc... I guess no one looks around at the surrounding area before buying anymore. If noise and those things are offensive don't move there in the first place, especially if it was there before hand.
The problem is regular airport generate money for the local economy but most, not all R/C fields using do not.
My club has 2 fields with one of them in the direct path to the ILS approach end of the only runway for Harrisburg International. We just had a person move into a farm that resides about 3/4 of a mile away and has had us in the township meetings more than once this year because he swears we are flying at all hours of the night and the bright lights from the planes both him and all of the planes are very loud and are constantly an irratation for him (he is a little over 30 years old).
We have rules at this field that limits flying in his direction and the limit that is not even close to his house... and have been approved by the township which has shown up without notice at different times to check on us and found no problems and they appreciate that we do so much for the physically challenged at our club. This complainer knows this and still he complains.
OH well, some people are born complainers I guess

IMHO, if a field is there first and then the houses move in, there should be no complaints that are valid. It is total BS. Anyone who builds a house near a RC field should know the noise levels.

Up here in the "great northwest" everyone snivels about everything. They buy a house around the airport then cry about the plane noise. They buy a house by the dragstrip and say the funny cars are too loud. We have a new housing development going in behind us and I'm sure they'll want us to get rid of our 5 chickens (all hens) we have. I guess some people just expect there own private Idaho......

Well, I got in about 8 more flights since last posting. The weather is startign to get crummy up here in NY state. Ya have to watch the weather forecast. Maybe flying today and if I can get in 5 flights, it will put me to 100 on the ole Superstar!

I got in two more flying days! Once was only 2 flights for even though the wind was down the cold kicked in and my fingers were gettin nippy. The second time was a beautiful Friday and it was soem great flying weather. I got in 6 flights on the ole Superstar and worked on my low end idle for the TT Pro 46 on the 4 Star 40. I got it going OK but will probably need another check before it goes airborne. Got the total number of flights on the Superstar to 108!. It is amazing for I believe that darn engine is running better now than ever!
I have basically packed it in for the year. The nasty weather is approaching.

hello am glad that i don' t have the snow all we gete is ice and no elec. can't fly elec with no elec."" have had exciting summer tryling to learn to fly rc several comments about instructor up north about his ability to learn you to fly has been commented in several magazines i think that i might need his help saw hiss accomplishments in several mags. i am too carefull when i fly so it will take me a long time to solo after purchasinging wrong pllane to try on
