After a little more than a decade, I finally decided to get back into rc flying. I ordered an H9 P-51 PTS MkII. The two-piece wing and the 2.4Ghz radio is what sold me on it. I can't wait for it to get here. Anyone have any words of wisdom regarding returning to the hobby after a long time off? I plan to buddy-box my first few flights at least. Thanks!

Sounds like you have a good plan going. That plane and and instructor should get you back flying pretty quickly.

the plane arrived yesterday. i was kind of surprised how quick the shipping is from horizon. all i have left to pickup is a 12v gell cell for my starter and some fuel. i'm hoping to maiden this weekend if the weather permits and there's someone at the field willing to buddy box.

i guess i might need to pick up a trainer cord, too. it didn't come with one for some reason.

Do yourself a favor and ditch the 3 blade prop and put a 2 blade on it. Also loctite the muffler bolts in. Welcome back to the hobby and you will love the way it flies. It was my first plane and its still the first plane in the air every time I go to the field.

Also pull the black metal limiter pin out of the blue collars, with a pair of strong pliers.

Then have someone help you tune the engine.

Pull the limiter out of the high speed needle collar, and just remove the collar for the low speed mixture. Also do a proper break-in on the engine. One tank full just breaking into a 4-stroke, and the second tank alternating between the point of 4-stroking and peak, holding for 10 seconds at each. Third tank set the mixtures and fly. I've have a lot of good success using this process with several Evolution engines. You can also change out the flywheel for a standard drive hub - they just slip off and back on without need for pushing the crankshaft out.

On some you have to bang the flywheel off carefully.

I've had two PTS engines come in where it was almost impossible to remove the flywheel without resorting to a bit of force or a press.

You can also purchase a flywheel-less prop hub too.

looks like i'm grounded until next week at least. the dx6i Tx that came with it has an "irregularity" with the right stick pot according to the service bulletin put out by spektrum. in the servo monitor, the aileron controls don't go all the way to the right. i just filled out the product inspection request and emailed it to horizon. kind of bummed, but at least it didn't cost me my plane.
