Default futaba attack 4

I have a futaba attack 4 and removed the crystal and tried it in another radio. That did not work so I put it back in the attack 4.Now nothing works! How do I get receiver and transmitter to make up and be friends again?

If you changed the crystal in your transmitters, you may try a new crystal of the same channel, but you may have to send it in to futaba/hobby services we are not exactly ever supposed to change crystals in a transmitter. It can cause all kinds of problems. I think it may even be a FCC oops. You are supposed to send the transmitter in and have them changed. Sorry if its screwed up.

Like Phoenixangel said, it is not just an Opps, but it is illegal to change the freqauency of a RC transmitter by changing crystals. The RF stage of your transmitter is tuned to match the frequency of the the crystal. When you change crystals, the tuning is not longer valid. FCC requires that any frequency change be made by a FCC Certified tech.

The TX is FCC certified as to frequency and band width. This certification is on the RF stage of the TX. On Tx's that have RF modules, IE the Futaba 9C is one, the certification is to the Module, not the transmitter. In that case, you can just pop a RF module out and put in a different frequency RF module. I do this all the time. The Attack though is a TX that doesn't have modules, so the work must be done by a FCC certified tech. It doesn't have to be done by FUtaba, but their rates are good and you have a known good TX when they send it back.

I'd check first to be sure I didn't put the receiver crystal in the transmitter.

If you put the original crystal back in the radio, and it doesn't work, it probably needs to go to the shop for a checkup. It's possible the crystal got bumped and broken.

Thank you for the input. I had no idea that swapping crystals from radio to radio would cause such a problem, just had better battery power in one than the other. They should not put the crystals on the front of the radio and accessable or a simpleton like me will try a swap like this. Thanks again for all the help.

OK that explains why the crystal would not work in the conquest even if that did not entail a frequecy change. You cannot swap futaba am and fm crystals, will not work

Also be sure you have not somehow switched a Rx crystal into the transmitter. As Carrellh mentioned Rx and Tx crystals are never interchangeable won,t work.

By the way all the posters are correct concerning the illegallity switching a Tx crystal without a retune. So the goal is to restore the attack with the proper crystal (futaba Tx, AM) that is the same channel that the radio was originally sold with.

Now crystals are very delicate and if you cut one open you would see two wire poles and micro thin silicon wafer attached between them. That wafer is delicate a simple fall to the hard floor from the table is enough to destroy one (that is why I never would buy a used crystal).

If you know you have tried the proper crystal and it has not been dropped and still no joy then your only option would be a service center.

However that system has very little value and for the costs an then a bit more you can find great deals on far more capable systems new.
