Default Flaps on .52 j-3

I installed flaps on my j-3 during the last blizzard, Got a chance to test fly today, I started out at 50% flaps and took off, UP It went! straight up............ clicked off the flaps and flew the circuit, came back down and went to 25%, mixed in a little down elevator and tried again, not quite as bad but still pretty punchy, I have not tried to land with them yet due to the great deal of extra lift I am getting, I know thats what they are supposed to do, but I am having trouble getting them dialed in, anyone have any ideas on mix values and what % of flaps I should be trying to make work? I know probabbly a stupid question but hey..........thats why they call this the beginners forum

It is really trail and error. I am not aware of any rule that tells you to dial in so much flap and so much elevator. Just do a lot of high altitude practicing. Good Luck, Dave

You nailed It 8!, worked the best today with a slight headwind at 25 deg, and 10% down elevator, That was alot fun bringing it the j-3 in for landing with flaps, low and slow! set it down with a feather touch and roll about 6-10 ft to a stop, great fun!
