Looks like a nice deal and a nice plane. If it were brushless then it would be a no brainer. I'm thinking about picking one up.

Hey what do you mean IF it were brushless? It's just an ARF plane... you can put brushed or brushless motor in it. It looks like a great plane though

From what I've been told they are supposed to be a good flyer. I should get to know how they fly soon - one of my students has one that I'll maiden for him (although it'll be a while before he'll be ready to handle it).

Definitely ditch the included motor. Everyone I've know who bought this plane complained about a sever lack of power so they switch to a brushless motor.

Brett.. I just looked over that plane. Brushless or not.. it is a bargain. That's one nice aircraft for $84.98!!! Heck, I would buy two of them just to have at that price!
A while back, I saw a Seagul Super Star ARF on sale. It was listed at $79.99 and I just took a look at the thing out of curiosity. Well, I jumped on it, and kicked my self in the butt for not buying two or three of them. It turned out that this plane needed at least a 1.60 glow engine to fly (that's how big it was) and a very nice aircraft!! Way worth more than the listed price. The manual was great, and the model itself is strong. They were a close out sale, discontinued model. Shame shame on me!!
This one looks great and, after going over the manual, looks like a solid build.
Just my opinion, but I would say.. buy it!!! I might just go ahead and order one myself. Jeech.. I am in the middle of putting together a Great Planes Seawind EP.. just what I need.. another plane. I have four electrics and a glow to maiden as soon as the weather permits!!

Brett,
Carl at my club has had one of these out twice, I do not know if he changed the motor or not but it did not seem underpowered he zipped around fairly well. What I have seen of it, which is limited, looks like a nice built plane.
One thing, he only got maybe 6-7 good minutes of flight. I am thinking the battery may not have been form charged properly or something. I am not sure.I do not know about electric flight times.
He had one of those bounce down the runway prop strike landings and everything but the prop was fine, one of the wheel cover things needed put back in place. It was pretty tough looking LOL

After reading some of the RCU individual customer ratings, I think I may skip it afterall. It is a good looking plane, but most people on there said that the plane wouldn't even get off the ground with the stock motor and battery. I was gonna do a BL conversion, but I think I may get the new spad that RCKen reviewed and build it instead. I'm wanting a WW1 biplane in a bad way.

The Lancair is a gorgeous little airplane but it does need a motor upgrade. The WW-1 bipes are cool too. I was thinking about that Sapd myself.

I have one of these planes.
The first thing I did was to replace the included motor with an Ultrafly outrunnner motor.
This was not only cheap, but a direct drop-in replacement, that fit into the included gearbox.
It is much easier to use the included gearbox than to try to utilize a direct drive, because of the motor offset.
Now my plane has plenty of power, and is a great somewhat relaxed flyer.
It is not a 3D plane, and I consider it mildly aerobatic.
But it has good speed in the air, and floats in for landings.
Flight times with the geared system are fantastic... over 15 minutes on a 2200mAh battery, which the plane has no problem with ( you don't even notice the larger battery pack ).
BTW: The plane flies fine with the stock motor, but I question the remarks about it not getting off the ground.
It sounds like they had battery issues. The included ESC is LiPo compatible and with LiPo packs the plane flies great.
Although my brushless Outrunner setup is more powerful.
