I am a newbie to the hobby, but have thought about this subject; mainly because as a bystander I have been tempted to ask questions, but had the common sense to stay back. Hopefully, will be flying soon. At first with my trainer and buddy box. This "flightline protocol" subject is important. Thanks.

You should feel free to ask anything you want as long as the guys are not flying or in the pits tuning an engine or something. Running planes are dangerous and should in my opinion be as distraction free as possible to work on.
I am glad you brought this up, I want to give no one the wrong idea, I love talking with anyone about my planes, and my hobby in general. I can not stand the idea of seeing some guys kid take a 7 pound plane spinning a 13x6 prop to the skull. That sounds really terrible but it could be the truth of the matter.
There are good reasons that there is a flightline, no one allowed in the pit area, and I have to stand there and yell like a moron the word "LANDING". No one wants anyone hurt is the bottom line.
If I am over setting in a chair or cleaning up one of my planes, or just have it sitting beside me on the charger. I love if someone notices one of em and wants to talk about it all day. I will go out of my way to get a new guy flying, I have taken several visitors up on my hobbistar with the buddy box, it has kind of been graduated to the club trainer. I will even let Mom or Dad hang out with a little one next to me while the 5yr old holds the buddy box and they think they are flying better then Dad did 5 minutes ago.
These kind of things are great for our club and the hobby most of all. With that said, when it is close to landing time mom, dad, and kid step behind the flightline.
Welcome to the hobby, and the addiction. Welcome to RCU !!
