Hey guys,

Strange question for you all.

I understand that storeing your planes in heat can damage them (correct?), but can storing your planes in a REALLY cold shed damage a plane?

I don't have much room to store planes and was wondering If I could build a shed to store any planes that I may aquire down the road. The only problem I can think of is winter.[sm=48_48.gif] And here in Maine it can get really cold.

It is coming up on summer now (high temps of 68 past week or two) and if I am going to build a shed it would be this summer. So I thought I'd ask for some opinions on the matter before winter rolls around again.

I store all my stuff in my unheated shop, for years now. I just go out and put the batteries on charge once a week, cycle them once or twice during the winter. It hasn't affected my fuel, or any of my guns or ammunition. The thing I would think about would be some ventilation, to keep moisture from building up, that would affect the wood some, and if you have any unsealed fuel, could cause a moisture problem in it. My shop is a 24x20 frame with metal covering type structure. I also keep a lot of computer stuff out there, switches, routers, parts, printers and whatever.

One of the bad things about cold is it makes covering very brittle, but if you don't touch it, then it won't be a problem in the cold.

When I lived in the mountains of Calif. I kept all my planes and modeling stuff in my shed, I did have air vents in there as mentioned, don't know if it helped or not but notheing ever warped or went bad. The shop I have now only goes down into the 30s and up to about 90 plus we really have no moisture problem here so everything is OK here too.

Great! I thought about ventilation and moisture, but wasn't sure if the cold would hurt any plane.
