Default Maiden flight today

For me and my bird. Ihad been doing alot of hemming and hawing on the internet the past few days, lots of reading up on different planes and in the forum. Had my last final exam today for this semester and was thinking it was time for a present to me. Ifound out that a local hobby shop had the firebird phantom in stock and they sold them for 60$. This was the same price i had been looking at on another plane that i would have had to have shipped. And it was such a beautiful day i snapped and said screw it, im gonna buy it.

I drive to the hobby shop and get there at 4:45 walk in buy the phantom ( i had pretty much set my mind on that so i wouldnt get distracted) got home at 5:10 had it open and realized one of the two elevator hinges was broken so one of the elevators just hung by its bottom hinge. Icall the shop back and ask if i can bring it back and ask how late they are open. They say they are open till 6 and they will exchange it. So i race back (in rush hour) get there at 5:45 just in time.

Take 2:

I get home finally, open it up and its perfect, Iboth batteries ( i bought a second pack). as i make dinner i can see the wind just dying down to nothing. Right at dusk my girlfriend and roomate drive over a big field on campus. Ido the range check. and am ready to go. Give it full power and im thinking damn this has so much power than my dinky air hog. Well i throw it and it takes off. Quite wabbly at first but i get it under control. Lots of fluttering of the stick. Slowly i get it smother as i realize it isnt an air hog and you cant just keep stabbing the controls. fly it in low circles then leveled it out cut the power and belly landed it no problem. tried to adjust the trimm alittle i had noticed i really didnt have much lift at full power. as the manual said it would climb at full power. Launch it again, its alittle better. but it flies beautifully. Very easy to control. very forgiving if you get it going some way you dont want. Landed it 2 more times one was the only bumpy one and it just was coming in kinda sharp and it just nose caught and flipped but it was going so slow not a scratch. Finished off that battery pack put in the other one, did to more big flights and 2 nice landings.

Iloved it. It was awsome. Well i think you caught another one boys. Ithink i got the itch.... or maybe thats the 30 bug bites i got when i was standing there like a statue locked on that plane.

But im so glad i did it.

Thanks all

A little bit of Deet goes a long way. Keeps the skeeters away, gnats are a little pesky too. Congratulations, you are hereby addicted.

Congradulations on your maiden flight! Felt good to take that bird home and know she will fly again I bet. Now you will find yourself flying in your dreams. I think you are hooked on the best hobby ever. Don't forget to focuse some of your attention on how to do some basic trim and repairs. That knowledge can keep you flying at the feild after a minor snafoo. It also help's to open your box and inspect your plane before you leave the store. Saves you a lot of agrivation. Congradulations on your landings to!
