( Please note I did post this in the Futaba direct support forum and have not had an answer........wondering if someone can help me here?)

Hoping someone can help me. I am new to the Hobby and unfortunately several of the instructors where unable to help with this, so here goes..............

I have a Futaba 6ex 2.4ghz TX and a Futaba T4YF buddy box with the appropiate cord to run between the two. When I bought the Buddy box my LHS said it would work.............got to the field, connected both the boxes via the cord, but the buddy box wasn't operational or doing anything. I had a couple of the instructors look at it and they couldn't figure the problem out either. Please note we are working on the assumption that you just connect the two boxes and your good to go..............Does the master have to be programmed or something to accept the buddy box?

Any help would be appreciated or a link to more info so I can print it out and bring it to the field with me.

I've been told by our flight training director that his 6EX 72Mhz radio requires another Futaba computer radio to buddy box with.  I own a Futaba 7C 72Mhz radio and a standard 4YF buddy box, and my 7C buddy boxes with it just fine.  I don't know why there is a difference, only that I've been told there is.</p>

I already have, and there's not a clear answer in it..that indicates one way or the other.............thats why I posted here looking for someones advice or wisdom.

Trust me I have spent a good few hours looking for the answers before posting, but I appear to be at a dead end!

Have you done what it says on pg 15 of the manual?

icarus: i also have this radio. first make sure you have the trainer function turned on in your programing, then notice your trainer switch is a 3 postion switch, off, on and "trainer", you don't need another computer radio, i used a futaba conquest without any problems

Page 33 of the manual is pretty clear:</p>

"The T6EX-2.4GHz transmitter may be connected to another T6EX-2.4GHz, or any T4EX, T6EXA, T7C, T9C, T12Z, T14MZ, FX-40 series transmitter."</p>

The 6EX 2.4Ghz transmitter won't work with a plain buddy box, it in fact does need another Futaba computer radio of the same generation that apparently isn't a 12FGA.</p>

Based on this information, your local hobby store should take the buddy box back.  Good luck and good shopping.</p>

The trainer function needs to be turned on inside of the programming of the radio. Turn that on and the buddy box will work with no problems. And no, you do not have to have another 2.4 ghz, or even a computer radio, to buddy box with it. What you have will work fine.</p>

Wow, that's weird. The 6EX manual also says not to use the trainer function with any Futaba transmitters with the round DIN plug as it will cause the 6EX to malfunction. I'm surprised the Conquest has worked for you, rgm762.

I used the same setup with my son's 6ex 72mhz and an old conquest 4 channel. Like Ray said, check to see if the trainer is activated.

The only issue with the setup is that you will get just raw stick movements on the buddy box, IEno end point or expo when the trainer is active. This drove me nuts for a while as I was used to the setup with my 9C and the same old Conquest. With the 9C, all of the end points and expos are still there when the student has control.

Do you have the trainer function turned on in the 6EX?The is an option for each modle that you have in memory to enable the trainer switch. It will show either "on" or "inh" which is "inhibited" or off in normal english. The manual explains it more. If you don't have the manual, here is a link to download it.

From what I read, the 4YF should work fine, I was told that my old Conquest would not work with my 7C, but I never tried it.

Biged; yea we seen that "after" , i think it falls under "one of those things" , i noticed they only make two trainer cords, a micro plug to micro plug or a micro plug to the futaba round plug that your not suppose to use but like i said, i had no problems with the conquest

I use the Futaba Conquest as a trainer box with my 6EX 2,4 with no problems.  The trainer cord has the round connector on one end and the square one on the other end to mate with the 6EX.  As Ken says, you must turn the trainer function on in the 6EX.
